    First time closing with SWCG

I’ve successfully closed my pool for the past 20+ years. This year, I converted to salt water so I’m wondering if there are any other things to consider. I’m putting the mesh cover on it today because the leaves are starting to fall. Anything different I need to do as far as balancing besides...

How to blow out returns without draining below them.

I’m thinking ahead for closing the pool. Each year I drop the water level down low enough so it’s below the returns. I always lower the water, blow them out, add pool antifreeze at the equipment pad and blow that through as well. Then plug them. The issue is that it’s about 16” of water as...

Kleen Strip Green…. What strength in Pool Math?

Lowes does not have anymore of the blue label Kleen Strip muriatic acid. I had to get the green label. It’s not clear at all on the label or the MSDS what the concentration is. What are you folks logging it as in PoolMath? This stuff..

    pH rise with SWCG?

A few weeks ago I installed a Circupool RJ60+. Then I went on vacation for 16 days. While away I had my daughter check salt levels and chlorine levels every other day and adjust as needed. She had to add one 40 pound bag of salt. And twice she added a gallon of chlorine. My CYA is at 60. I...

GFCI breaker of choice for new VSP

I recently installed a new Hayward VSP super pump and a Circupool RJ60+ SWCG. I have both units running off of the pump's breaker. Its the original GE 20 amp GFCI. (23 year old breaker) The idea there is that if the pump loses power, the SWCG also does and is therefore not relying solely on...

Hayward VSP “DC VOLTAGE TOO HIGH”

Ugh, my second post of the day. Not a good day for me. First day with the new Hayward SP2603VSP setup. It was running fine for about an hour. Then I heard it shut off. Display said DC VOLTAGE TOO HIGH. It reset itself, went into an auto prime, got the same error. It repeated this about 4...

HELP..Breaker keeps tripping on new VSP install

I replaced a Hayward super pump with a Hayward VSP super pump. Last night when finishing up, I just turned on the breaker, made sure the display lit up on the pump, it started to spin up and I then shut it down. No problem. This morning I’m ready to fire it up and get it programmed. As soon...

    Higher CYA required for SWCG?

I’ve read a lot of the posts here regarding the reasons to run the CYA at about 80ppm if using a SWCG. It seems that a primary reason is because the SWCG doses Cl very slowly. I’ll be installing a unit rated at 3.1 pounds per day of capacity. Doing some math for a 28,000 gallon pool gives me...

    Testing salt with Taylor K-1766

My first time using this kit. I’ve never added salt before to the pool. I’m just sampling it prior to converting to a SWCG. I’ve learned here that my pool would probably have a measurable amount of salt even though I’ve never dumped any in. The color change was pretty quick between drop #7...

    SWCG install orientation

2 questions; The Circupool install manual shows proper orientation as having it “upwards” and wires up. Then for variable speed pumps it says to flip it over. I’m just wondering why that is. For my install, it will be with a standard single speed Hayward super pump and then later this year...

Help, Switching from liquid chlorine to SWG

So after reading several posts here, I think it is a wise decision to go with a SWG unit. It’s just too hard to keep my chlorine level stable especially when we take vacations and there is nobody here to add the liquid. So, I like the Circupool brand for their reliability and warranty. I...

    Hayward SP2603VSP vs the W3SP2603VSP

What is the difference between these 2 pumps? I am considering replacing my old 1.5HP Hayward Super Pump with a drop in VSP unit. I believe the 2603 is the correct model but I see 2 of them. One is listed as "Expert Line" I did the compare feature on Haywards product website and it shows no...

Drop in VSP replacement for a Hayward Super Pump

I have an old 1.5 HP single speed 240 vac Hayward super pump. Is there a variable speed pump that is a drop in replacement as far as size and positioning of the inlet/outlet fittings? I’d like to replace my pump but not have to re-plumb. The inlet would be the biggest concern. No room there...

Delayed opening this year, let it circulate without the filter?

I'm in northeast PA. I usually have the pool open by now so I can get it all cleaned up and balanced by the beginning of May. This year I will be away for the first 3 weeks of May though and I do not want it to just sit like it is with the winter cover on, stagnant and wait till June to get it...

I typically use liquid chlorine but when we are away for an extended period of time, I use the 3" tablets in an inline chlorinator. The prices on this stuff has shot up over the last year. But I see some shopping sites online that have prices that are almost too good to be true. i am...

    TF-100 test kit question

Always thought this was odd, but never asked about it; The CH test uses 10 drops of R-0010 but it is a tiny 1/2 oz bottle. The TA test uses just 2 drops of R-007 but it is in a bottle twice the size at 1 oz. Why does the kit comes with 1/2 the amount of R-0010 when the test uses 5x more drops?

New Raypak LP heater issue. high limit fault

Just installed my new heater. It keeps tripping the high limit 2 switch. I think it’s a 135 degree trip. I put a thermocouple on that switch and noticed that if the side cover is off, it runs 120 - 128 degrees. If I put the cover back on it runs 127 - 137 degrees and trips. Why would it run...

Generic Borax, 20 mule team. Is this stuff the same thing?

Sodium Tetrabotate. >>> Borax Is this a bulk, cheaper alternative to "Borax 20 mule team"? I was pondering going the borate route for my pool this year and I would need about 100 pound of it and 6 gallons of MA. At $0.60/pound for the Borate that seems like a good deal.

Threaded unions and Buna-N o-rings, OK to use?

1.5" vs 2" plumbing size for a new heater install

My existing setup is a Hayward Superpump with 1.5" fittings on it to a Hayward DE filter with the SP710XR50 multiport valve which also has 1.5" fittings. That goes to my old Teledyne heater which has 2" fittings. So it is adapted up to 2" at right at the heater inlet then continues as 2" out...
