Rebuilding Hayward PSX Valves, part questions...

Amazon actually had "used like new" PSV3S2 valves for $42 / each. At that price all in it seemed like parting it out was more trouble than it was worth, so I bought those and will probably just replace everything but the valve body, lube the rings, and call it a day. Thanks for the help!

Rebuilding Hayward PSX Valves, part questions...

That's hilarious, I didn't even think of pricing the entire valve. Definitely an option, though I could still save $40-$70 parting it out (depending on how aggressive I want to be... :)). Thanks for the idea, definitely a solid option!

Rebuilding Hayward PSX Valves, part questions...

Ran my spa today and was surprised to find the water level 4" below the tile. Worked the problem and discovered that the return side PSX valve (PSV3S2 with GVA-24 on top) is leaking and allowing hot water to return to the pool (single pump system). So, seems I need to rebuild that valve, and...

Where do you source chems, specifically LC?

Found this in a search this evening, too bad I don't live near Syracuse IN, though I'm not sure how I would move (or where I would store) a 458lb drum of NSF grade chlorine. Does it come with a visit from the ATF...

Where do you source chems, specifically LC?

15 gallon drums! Sounds sweet, I could get monthly drops, but man, what a pita that would be to haul around and "slip" into the back spot on my pad. :)

Where do you source chems, specifically LC?

I've known about the shortages in the trichlor market, though I didn't realize the price had gone up that much. Makes me feel better about spending $600 a year on LC. I'd assume almost anyone who "delivers" LC will be more expensive than HD/Lowes... the weight of the liquid makes shipping...

Where do you source chems, specifically LC?

That's a pretty good deal, and I'm looking to install an automated feeder, but traveling to and from Houston - with 20+ gallons of chlorine in the back of my SUV - doesn't seem particularly practical or safe. I'd also probably blow most of my savings on the gas. :) That list you linked is...

Where do you source chems, specifically LC?

No, I'm talking about 10% pool LC (hypo), not washing bleach. Both HD and Lowes sell it by the box under the name "chlorinating liquid" in their pool sections (which is usually near the garden center), and they typically sell it as a a house brand (e.g., HD sells HDX) though lately both stores...

Where do you source chems, specifically LC?

As a southern pool owner (TX) I pulled the trigger a number of years ago on a switch from pucks to LC. Just got tired of fighting high CYA and decided I'd rather be surprised by a 6 month CYA crash and pay more to run LC than deal with toggling back and forth (pucks to LC to pucks) to keep CYA...

White patches/swaths in new plaster, cause?

Not trying to be difficult, but I'm not really sure how that's necessary? Here is a zoomed in shot of the photo I shared previously with annotations. I mean, it's pretty obvious what I'm talking about... right? It's all over, but that area inside the red circle is a pronounced example. That...

White patches/swaths in new plaster, cause?

Thx. Well, I'm in agreement with you about it being sloppy work, and I'm pretty sure it's trowel marks, but I would still like to understand why it happens and is happening. Particularly why it seems to become more apparent with time. I circled one of the largest marks in red on my photo...

Rec for repainting Hayward light faces?

Have been doing some maintenance on my pool lately, which included pulling and reseating the lights (Hayward colorlogic LPCUN11100). In the course of that I pulled the faces and noticed that they've faded quite a bit, with one almost white. So, I'm considering repainting them to get them...

White patches/swaths in new plaster, cause?

That all makes sense (sanding vs acid, not effected by pool chemistry, etc). For some reason I feel like they had to do that (spot sanding) when the pool was originally plastered (spa was originally perfect, pool had some finish issues), but it's hard to remember. The overarching question I...

White patches/swaths in new plaster, cause?

Had a crack form in our spa after 7 years. Finally got the pool builder to repair it after 1.5 years of back and forth (praise the lord), which involved demoing/concrete patching/replastering the spa (grey NPT quartzscape). Everything has been mostly fine. However, in the 2-3 weeks it's been...

Some thoughts and questions on black algae control

@Donldson Interesting... I didn't realize that about xtrablue (miniscule amounts of copper), I'll have to keep that in mind. I can't believe they add copper to a pool product without listing it explicitly... that's crazy given the negatives of adding metals to the pool. I wasn't excited about...

Some thoughts and questions on black algae control

Thanks for the replies everybody. So, I appreciate the chems question, but it's not relevant. I know how well I manage my chems (I'm well versed in the CYA table, etc), and I've dealt with it enough that I accept the fact that I have black algae in my pool. Basically I'm not looking for...

Some thoughts and questions on black algae control

First, I've searched the forums, and I've read previous posts about black algae (some quite old). However, I haven't found exactly the conversation I'm looking for... so here goes. I live in Austin, TX, with an in-ground pool with glass tile, epoxy grout, and a pebble mix plaster (name escapes...

    Hayward Chlorine Feeder help? (AQL-CHEM4-CHLOR)

Ah, that's interesting, I hadn't thought about it as an aux relay/time mgmt type unit. I was thinking about it from either a standard puck constant drip chlroinator or some kind of responsive/active continuous system. I guess it makes sense to use the relay as a governor. So, follow-up...

    Hayward Chlorine Feeder help? (AQL-CHEM4-CHLOR)

Howdy all. So, at year 5 of living in the south with an IGP I've finally decided to say goodbye to pucks forever and just switch over to liquid chlorine. Pucks are manageable, but I'm just tired of switching back and forth to try and keep my CYA in some kind of workable range... I'd rather...

Hayward spa light won’t turn off

ajw: Thanks for the follow-up. As I mentioned in my initial post, yes, I have Colorlogic with the remote and the ability to program various color schemes into my light system, and I can set aux slots to handle various combinations of things (with a limited number of slots available). That's...

Hayward spa light won’t turn off

Had a chance to dig in a little more today with some testing, interesting insights. I have 3 lights (2 pool, 1 spa). I also have 3 light programs... 1 for all lights white (Lights relay), 1 for pool lights color program (aux 1), 1 for spa light color program (aux 5). I typically just turn on...

Hayward spa light won’t turn off

Jim: Thanks for the prompt reply! Makes sense, I’m familiar with relay problems (auto), but for some reason didn’t really consider that. I took the cover off and tapped on the retaining bar for the “lights” relay (4 across). There was definitely some noise (like a trigger short) that wasn’t...

Hayward spa light won’t turn off

Hayward Prologic with Colorlogic lights (I think) To summarize, we had a power outage the other day, and my spa light won’t turn off. When I power cycle the lights (circuit breaker or service mode for 30 seconds) the pool lights (2) will come on as well as the system reboots/tests, the pool...

Switching from pucks to liquid, thoughts and insights?

I try to keep it to around 50, and I run the mins on FC because I don't like high chlorine levels generally with the kids. Min for 50 according to TFP's CYA charts is 4. However, it's worth noting that even when I DO run it higher on pucks (I've kept and run it at 10 with a CYA of around...

Switching from pucks to liquid, thoughts and insights?

Awesome, thanks for the insights! I've basically found the Hayward system (which seems to require the chemical control unit/component for the hayward panel which I think I'd need to add to my current Hayward set-up), the Pentair system (which seems to need control but which I'm kind of unclear...

Switching from pucks to liquid, thoughts and insights?

Haha, no worries, I hear you. That may be true in terms of the default salt levels, but no one around here (pool installers) will install SWCG with the context I described. My neighbors across the street just put their pool in (motivated by our pool) and the installer refused to do SWCG due to...
