How do you deal with bleach breakdown?

Yeah that might be part of a longer term project. My pump can use up to 15.6A of my 20A circuit. That doesn't leave much room for a SWG. So long term, I might have a shed added nearby, get a subpanel there, and run new electrical from that to the pool.

How do you deal with bleach breakdown?

Oh your BJ's has the Austin shock? Mine just has 3 gallon packs of 6 or 7.5%, I can't remember which, for $15. The Ocean State Job Lot has the Austin 12.5%, as well as Diamond Chemical Company 12.5%, both for $19.99. The devil is in the details. Every box of the Diamond had a date of June 8th...

How do you deal with bleach breakdown?

Just got around to checking the date. 22206. So July 24th. We'll call that three weeks. It's been pretty warm, so although I think it's been closer to 80F in the garage, let's call it 90F for the sake of argument. That should be 9.1% according to the chart. Of course, I have no idea what temp it...

How do you deal with bleach breakdown?

Yeah, cost. The way the plumbing was setup, there’s no logical way to fit additional equipment. It’d pretty much need to be done over. So the initial cost of the equipment itself plus the labor to rework the plumbing, means it’s not really viable. Oh and electrical too. I only have a single...

How do you deal with bleach breakdown?

For the past ten years I’ve been using 12.5% bleach for sanitization, but I’ve been mostly in the dark about levels. I know you’ll hate to read it, but I’d balance everything at the start of the season using the local store’s WaterLink SpinTouch tester, then just wing it on chlorine for the rest...

    Electricity in basket housing

Well fine. Whatever. The pump is as grounded as it could possibly be. Definitely more than the previous pump. You're right though, the pool is not bonded and it never will be. I'm more interested in trying to fix the pump than bring the pool up to code.

    Electricity in basket housing

Oh and I guess I'll add that inside the basket housing is the only place current is detectable. We tried all four corners of the pool and the skimmer as well. Nothing.

    Electricity in basket housing

Pool is about 40 years old. The only thing metal that comes in contact with the water is inside the pump. Aside from the lip around the walls that is a good 6 inches from the water level, there's no metal anywhere. Not even a ladder. Thank you. My electrician said a bonding grid wasn't...

    Electricity in basket housing

Since it's only the pump, there is no bonding grid. There's no other electrical components to connect to. The pump is grounded via the mains, and the electrician did connect the bonding lug on the pump to a grounding rod.

    Electricity in basket housing

It has to be the pump. There's no other electricity in the area. I have no lights, no nothing else. There's just the outlet for the pool pump - which the electrician fully inspected as well - which the pump is plugged into.

    Electricity in basket housing

I have a Waterway Defender 140 that was installed by the local pool company about a month ago. At the time, everything seemed ok. Two weekends ago I went to pull the basket from the housing and felt a prick as my finger hit the water. Figuring I had a small cut on that finger that I couldn't...

How to remove floc that didn’t work

My apologies, the signature is/was out of date. I've updated it with recent hardware changes. Unfortunately, I don't know what I don't know. There's clumps floating in the water. I don't know if that's all of it, if the floc is still in the water, if there is stuff settled on the bottom, and so...

How to remove floc that didn’t work

That's not a bad idea. That seems like it would only help with the bits on the surface. Do I need to worry about it elsewhere? I've not had floc fail before - though I only used it once about 7 years ago - so I'm not really sure what kind of problem I've got myself into. I just know "don't let...

How to remove floc that didn’t work

I don't know what an MPV is, but the filter itself (and of course the sand) is about 2-3 years old. It's Hayward stuff. I'm not really looking for help getting the water clear, because the advice is always just "slam it." I just need to figure out what to do about getting the floc out of the...

How to remove floc that didn’t work

Everything in the water is dead. My chlorine levels have been sky high, but the filter just can’t clear the water fast enough. It would takes weeks at this rate. So the pool store sold me Bacquacil liquid floc. It’s been 48 hours and just caused some clumping on the surface. How do I get it out...

Screwed up: non-chlorine bleach went into pool.

Really? It specifically says "not for sanitization" and lists no sodium hypochlorite at all. But it sounds like it's just annoying, not really harmful. Which I'm ok. Not happy about, of course, but what is done is done.

Chlorox Fresh Meadow Splash-Less Bleach. It lists no active ingredients.

Screwed up: non-chlorine bleach went into pool.

I normally by my bleach at BJ's. For whatever reason, the standard blue box was gone and a pink box in its place. Same price, same location, so figured it was just a new color scheme. It wasn't until I dumped 6 gallons worth into my 20k gallon pool that I noticed the fragrance and foaming. It...

I think my pump is leaking water

So I went to investigate the connection between the pump and multiport today. I had seen some stuff on the outside that I can best describe as candle wax, very sloppily poured on. I also noticed a small amount of water on the TOP of the threads, which didn't make any sense. I theorized that this...

I think my pump is leaking water

What an eventful day. After the story I'm about to tell, you'd be surprised that it moved water at all. Well, as of Friday, it didn't. My pump blew its gasket and wouldn't prime. I could visibly see the water coming from the seam. Easy fix. Time constraints meant I couldn't get to it until this...

I think my pump is leaking water

I have one skimmer, one return, and one sidewall drain. This is an older pool, there is no drain on the bottom. The leak feels like it started recently. It's been a few hours with the equipment running, I have no water in the bucket I setup, but the water level appears to be a little lower. I...

I think my pump is leaking water

Quick update on this. Overnight with everything sealed up, I couldn't measure any water loss at all. So the leak is definitely not in the structure. I've put the waste line into a bucket and I'm running the equipment to see if I get any water there. I do hear a bit of a slurping noise from the...

I think my pump is leaking water

Here's a couple pictures. The forum won't let me attach the third, but I don't think it adds much. I think my equipment was assembled by a blind quadriplegic. No offense intended to the blind quadriplegic community. Edit: Photos removed because I need the storage space.

I think my pump is leaking water

I'm pretty confident my pool is losing water faster than it should, though my wife thinks I'm crazy. This past Friday before leaving to go camping for the July 4th weekend, I filled the pool because it was at the minimum point for the skimmer to work, and I didn't want to have to worry about it...

Going Insane Trying to Clean Green Pool

Ok, I'll admit I didn't follow your directions precisely, simply because I haven't ordered the test kit yet. It's a good chunk of change and most of my budget I allocated for the pool is gone. I fully intend to order it, I understand the value. I use a similar kit for my aquarium, since the...

Going Insane Trying to Clean Green Pool

Ok, so I've updated my signature per your suggestion. That seems like the simplest thing I can do! I'll see what I can do about the test kit. Currently my supplies on hand are 2 gallons of 12.75% chlorine, and 5 pounds of stabilizer. It is pretty obvious I'm going to need more chlorine. As I...

Going Insane Trying to Clean Green Pool

Some of these are estimates, it's hard to get an accurate reading from the list test strips and chart. But they're close. Hardness 100 Total Chlorine 10+ Free Chlorine 10+ pH 7.2 Alkalinity 40 Cyanuric Acid 30-50 As for the deep clean, it's a little late here, but I'll try to do that tomorrow.

Going Insane Trying to Clean Green Pool

My first post here, because I'm at my wit's end with this pool. I have a 16' x 32' inground pool, 3ft at the shallow end, 8ft at the deep end. It is part of the house I bought last year, and it has been a nightmare. We started looking at the house in the June of 2012. At that point, the pool...
