Makes no difference whether it's set for main drain or one or the other skimmer, I still get air and turbulence. I'll have to try the shaving cream.

All that is really required is to put some chlorine in the pool while you're gone. It's unlikely that anything else needs to be done in a few days time unless you're not wanting to bother with any of the other maintenance.
