    Am I reading chlorine right?

Ok, that makes sense. I am now losing 1.5, maybe 1 ppm chlorine overnight. I put in 2 gallons last night of 12.5%. Waited for about an hour before retesting after sundown and raised from 11 to 17ppm. This morning between 15.5 and 16ppm. It's taking over 40 Oz of chlorine to raise by one ppm...

    Am I reading chlorine right?

Ok. So tonight added 160 Oz and raised from 11ppm to 14ppm. I thought it would take it to 16ppm at least. I waited Bout 15 to 20 mins to measure added chlorine. I added another 32 Oz, waited about 10 Mins, went to 15ppm; still not desired 16. Added another 32, tested after 5 mins and now at...

    Am I reading chlorine right?

Yea, i'm just not understanding why if it is clear there is something in water which is consuming chl, why my comnbined chl is always showing 0.

    Am I reading chlorine right?

Ok, thanks. So this am's results is 14.5ppm. Lost 3ppm overnight. However, for first time in this sequence water looking more mirror like clarity as opposed to that lack luster clarity I was seeing. I think I will be slamming closer to 18 to 20 ppm instead of the 16. Also, did the combined chl...

    Am I reading chlorine right?

I measured again, about another 5 minutes after last meaurelast night. This time I got 17.5ppm; maybe a more accurate one indicating a raise of 3.5ppm from 14ppm. But I'm still baffled at the first 100 only raising by 2ppm. Unless in 45 mins it lost 2ppm? I'm about to take chl this am see where...

    Am I reading chlorine right?

Hey all. Just wanted to run this through really quick make sure my process is right. So, I was at 12ppm chlorine at 6pm. Added 100 Oz and expected chl to go up to at least 16ppm (usually. 16 to 20 Oz raises chl by 1ppm). I waited about 45 mins and tested chl. I was shocked, no pun, that result...

    Back to Basics-FC and CC

Agree. I will keep it on the higher end. Even bought another case of liquid chlorine to keep supply handy. So, went by another pool store to get refill on a taylor reagent. Since I was there, had water sampple tested. They use the test strips. one of the results has me questioning: Gave me...

    Back to Basics-FC and CC

Thank you sir. Yes, I have had success clearing pool with slam process as suggested here. I just have the hardest time determining exactly what my CYA level is so can sometimes under slam since not sure if CYA level is 35, 40, or 45...that dot doesnt really completely disappear, though it can...

    Back to Basics-FC and CC

Ok, guys. So I have kept pool at 35 to 40 cya and at least 4ppm chlorine. Water tends to lean towards bit cloudy appearance so i increase chlorine. Filter pump all good. My question is, and again, having been told by pool store guy , my total chlorine is 9ppm (slammed last night) cc 5ppm and fc...

    Store testing Chlorine and CYA

Didn't really explain . He was just reading off the computer screen "results". He mentioned something about "chlorine lock" and needing an oxidizer to unlock the 15.5ppms, but suggested not doing this for another couple of days. My fas-dpd test results yielded 16 ppms free chlorine, or total...

    Store testing Chlorine and CYA

Hello all. Just had my water tested at local pool store. Everything was on point. I knew my chlorine was high as store tech said. He said my total chl was at 20ppm. The active chl though was only at 4.5ppm, and the remaining 15.5 was doing nothing. He suggested to throw in some oxydizer to free...

    Green/brownish layer bottom of pool

Ok, water clarity just around 98% of desired goal. Stuff on bottom nearly invisible now. When i brush this morning, can't see that cloud anymore. Been slamming at 20 overnight. As of this morning, lost about 3 ppm overnight. Should probably keep slamming, right? The filter pressure slightly...

    Green/brownish layer bottom of pool

Yea, so cya has gone up to about between 40 and 50. Never can tell on cya. Is the dot supposed to completely disappear, or we just look to when dot starts fading away and ALMOST disappears? At any rate, I increased slamming to 20 ppm, maybe 21 last night , and this morning was at 20. I had...

    Green/brownish layer bottom of pool

Pic from this morning. Actually, have to say slight improvement for first time. I am raising chl to 12 at night and checking in the am before Sun up. I'm only putting in 1/4 cup DE after backwash. Haven't checked cya lately. Checking chl everyday in the evening and morning. Can't wait to get...

    Green/brownish layer bottom of pool

Well, couple days, same situation. No change. When backwash, green stuff comes out, but day after day, no change. Can't see the floor clearly and that layer of stuff still there very visible when brush. Last couple nights, not losing any chlorine really. Go to bed at 12ppm or slightly over...

    Green/brownish layer bottom of pool

At 11? Forgot to mention I added DE and got pressure to 10 ppm. Would that change when to backwash? Also, my diverter has 3 settings; skim only, pull water from bottom drain only, or both, bottom and skimmer on top. I have had it on skim only. Should I change to both?

    Green/brownish layer bottom of pool

Also , considering maybe increasing chlorine? Maybe 12 ppm not enough. Right now pressure gauge at 13 psi. Clean pressure is 9. Water coming out of jet returns still feels decent, don't thunk I should backwash yet. I am losing 2 ppm chlorine over night.

    Green/brownish layer bottom of pool

Update, been slamming, changed sand, added DE and still no improvement since Saturday. I think I will try some skill it. Just pour whole bottle. It's worked before. I just don't see why it's not clearing and why skill it would fix problem. I have polyquat algaecide, but dint want to use that...

    Green/brownish layer bottom of pool

I heard of a technique to make a slide valve vacuum to waste. Has to do with taking out plunger and sticking in an expansion rubber, basically keeping water going into filter and straight out to waste....any opinions?

    Green/brownish layer bottom of pool

Thanks. I will follow slam process. With regards to vaccuming to waste, your opinion on vaccuming in backwash mode to waste? I know vacuuming to waste purpose is to bypass flter altogether, but you think would still accomplish goal? Is there another method to use to vacuum to waste when there is...
