    Target ph or CYA first

I noticed bit of algae coming back today on stair case and little inside the pool with FC of 8.5 ppm, So, I am planning to add back bleach until i really see the bottom, both at near and far end. I guess my CC should be 0 for a week and under SLAM to justify myself it's done. CYA - 35, pH -...

    Target ph or CYA first

Good to see my CYA levels are up now, CYA - 32, and Chlorine is holding up at 11.5 through the day. Water is crystal blue. So, I have added little DE so that it gets clear at deep end. Should I add 12 lb of baking soda to reach level of 90 for TA, as it will be raining next week?

    Target ph or CYA first

All these comments are sooo much helpful. Thank you for the detailed understanding. Hopefully, I should be good without backwash for a week.

    Target ph or CYA first

My Tap water TA is 100. What does this mean? I lost almost 9 ppm CL today though. Started adding stabilizer in both the skimmers for now, Can i still backwash after two days, as water pressure is little low now?

    Target ph or CYA first

i started with 0 alkalinity. How to calculate TA of the fill water? In the beginning, i had to add around ~10lbs of pH down to bring it from 8.4 to 7.2 before starting SLAM. Here are the readings in the morning. CL 12.5 CC ~1.0 TA 40 CYA 0 No Chlorine loss in the night. Though I can not see...

    Target ph or CYA first

Yes. I rechecked now after first dose of baking soda - 12lbs, it now shows 30ppm for TA. So, I will continue adding two more same doses till it reaches 75. My CYA is 0. I just added 2 powdered shock to reach 10ppm CL level. Wonder why i see chlorine loss on a rainy day? I may need to add 6 lbs...

    Target ph or CYA first

I have completed with addition of Liquid Chlorine, and pH down, Now Night loss is 2 ppm. Alkalinity was in fact near zero after second testing, so, I have added baking soda, and now is cloudy and blue. Shooting for maintaining 10ppm chlorine constantly, as i noticed 5 ppm loss in the day. I am...

    Target ph or CYA first

After opening the pool today, it is really dark green. So, I have done vacuuming using the waste setting. Post that i started running the robot. I will try to scrub pool tomorrow. Below are the water test readings, Please let me know should i target Ph or CYA first before starting the SLAM...

    Algae in my pool

Based on comments from others, i noticed that if your pool is big size then SLAM process is not straight forward. I know it works as when i was out on vacation, my neighbor mentioned that pool was sparkling clean during my 1st SLAM. Also, I noticed couple of times, that in my skimmer and...

    Algae in my pool

Thank you PoolStored for explaining this method. Finally, I have a way to be figure this out for pool size. I will certainly try it.

    Algae in my pool

Is there any way to find pool size in gallons accurately? Mine is 20ft x 40 ft rectangular with cut corners, Gracian shape, 10 ft deep, 3 ft shallow end. Incorrect pool size causes chemical calculation really difficult.

    Algae in my pool

I wonder why i really needed to add stabilizer until it was all clear, rather keep CYA at low levels of 20 to 30. With SLAM levels below 10 ppm chlorine, one can swim in the pool too. Last week, I was running out of POP (pool owner patience). I could have avoided with high CYA of 55 due...

    Algae in my pool

Last week I emptied some water to bring CYA to 25, and for few days pool started getting less cloudy, yet saw daytime loss of 2 to 3 ppm, not much at night though. So, Last week added stabilizer for 3 lbs to bring CYA up to 40. And after that pool is getting more green with algae. Got a new...

    Algae in my pool

Thanks to TFP I was able to get my first SLAM done at 20 CYA levels in 3 weeks. In the past, I had used clarifiers and other pool potion products that might have gum up my filter. Last few afternoon, saw loss of 3 to 4 ppm of chlorine loss due to sun. Water is cloudy and unable to see the...

Adding DE to Sand filter and pressure readings

Would you recommend once a week DE usage on sand filter, if the pool had clarifiers, floc etc... from the past, and you need them to clean it out from the filter?

    Algae in my pool

I got my answer from this forum, When to end SLAM And I understood that Day time drop is not as important, as Overnight drop. Thanks for your patience.

    Algae in my pool

I understand the forum does not recommend this. But, If I start with a dark green pool, and I wish to start with algaecide, should I add that before SLAM or during the process as a last resort? And which is recommended brand for a 30K gallon pool? Want to speed up the process for large size...

    Algae in my pool

Last Night added 1 gallon of LC as per the "Effects of Adding" calculator, and FC in the night was 18 and morning it was 17.5 Water is still green though better then before, so I will scrubbing continuing two times a day. Not sure why pH jumped from 7.4 to 8.0. Ideally, I want pH to be at 7.3...

I just found this feature, really nice one to add chemicals, if you added multiple type such as both LC and cal hypo. (y)

Yes, That help explains it. My current level of Chlorine FC - 16.5 I guess I only add more chlorine, if the levels drop.

    Algae in my pool

If I need to add three buckets of 5 gallon liquid chlorine, should I pour it all 5*3 gallon all at one night, or space it out for 3 nights? can I add in day time too?

    Algae in my pool

Yes, I did drain little water to lower CYA. After a night of starting SLAM, pool still is green with below readings. CL - 13 CC - 1 pH - 7.5 TA - 90 CYA - 38 Which is more effective? - Cal Hypo 73% or Liquid Chlorine 12%.

    Algae in my pool

As per the messages, I moved the pH - 7.2 and CYA from 45 to 30 to start the SLAM process. Will add Liquid Chlorine in the night to start the process. Is there a recommendation of what pH, CYA and especially Alkalinity should be after SLAM process completes?

    Algae in my pool

After my 2 week return. I did had visible algae growth in some areas. In such case, where algae is very visible with clear water and bottom visible, is it better to use waste setting to throw the algae out? versus scrubbing them out which ended up making entire water green. The reason i ask...

    Algae in my pool

After my 2 week return, below are the latest readings. I did had visible algae growth in some areas, that i scrubbed it. Luckily, My pool guys added stabilizer once, to keep it balanced. FC - 2.5 pH - 7.8 CYA - 20 Based on calculator app, recommendation states to add 4 lb Stabilizer, 1/2...

    Algae in my pool

My OCLT Test passed, and I had Chlorine loss of zero and my reading look good. FC - 17.5 ppm same as last night. pH - 7.5 CYA - 25

    @11AM Readings FC - 15.5 pH - 7.5 CYA - 26

    Algae in my pool

Thank you for that information. My free chlorine dropped from 18.5 ppm to 16.5 ppm in OCLT test. With current level of chlorine, I see no need to add chlorine. Will continue checking every 4 hours along with scrubbing.

    Algae in my pool

So, If FC remains at 12, and OCLT test pass with loss of less then 1 ppm, then how do I raise CYA to 50 ppm at the last stage? by adding stabilizer?
