    Testing Calcium Hardness

So I tested again today, adding more R-0011L, and I think it is 600ppm. Still didn't go a much deeper pink though.

Yes I do have a SpeedStir. I usually give up at 500 but it could be a tad higher. Trouble is it is so pale it is really hard to see the colour at all. - - - Updated - - - Yes, it was a typo. I already do the 10ml version too. I'll try adding more R-0011L when I do the testing tomorrow.

I am already using PoolMath and also PoolPal on my phone. Thank you for the help.

    Testing Calcium Hardness

Yes, the reading is around 500. I am trying to keep the PH down to about 7.2 to try to combat this. We did have calcium scaling last year, but since keeping the PH low it seems to be improving. It also appears that our new pool robot seems to be scrubbing off the small amount of scaling that...

    Testing Calcium Hardness

I have the Taylor FasDpd test kit. The instructions say that when you add the R-0010 and then the R-0011L the sample will turn red, then count the drops of R-0009 until the colour turns to blue. My sample only turns to a very pale pink, and eventually a very pale blue, but the colours are so...

Looking for Automatic Pool Cleaner that links into existing filters

It arrived yesterday, and we are very pleased with it. Our pool had lots of fine silt on the bottom after the winds we have had in the last few days and it picked up the lot. Just have to master the remote control now.

    Hard water in Italy

Re: Understanding the Scale Fight Is this directed to me YippeeSkippy? I have posted pictures in the past - will try to find a link. I am likely to be posting pictures soon anyway, as there is some staining appearing that I would like advice on. I will start a new thread for that though...

Looking for Automatic Pool Cleaner that links into existing filters

Ok, I am thinking of going for this one Dolphin Wave 100 Commercial Pool Cleaner by Maytronics - Pool Market, but from an Italian supplier. Does anyone have any experience of it?

    Hard water in Italy

Re: Understanding the Scale Fight Thank you for the confirmation I am safe to do these. It is not a case of collecting rainwater unfortunately, this isn't possible where the pool is sited, but when we get thunderstorms, and we get some good ones in the summer, it nicely fills the pool. As it is...

    Hard water in Italy

I have a continual battle with scale as our water here is extremely hard, so every time I top up I am adding calcium. The more rain water we can get into the pool the better. I have been keeping the PH down to around 7.2 or 7.4 and was concerned that this was too low. I think I understand from...

Looking for Automatic Pool Cleaner that links into existing filters

I will research your recommendations thank you, and if and when I do make any decision I will come back and report. I guess part of my decision making will also involve what is available here in Italy, versus the complications of importing from, say, the US, and all the Italian Customs...

Looking for Automatic Pool Cleaner that links into existing filters

It takes me 4 hours to clean the pool, but I have seen how dirty our friends robot filters get and their pool is about half the size of ours. He has two filters which he keeps swapping out. I just think it would be so much easier to have the dirt go to the filters and then backwash when the...

Looking for Automatic Pool Cleaner that links into existing filters

Hi everyone Haven't been here for a while so sorry that my first post is asking for advice. I have a large pool, and would really prefer to find an automatic cleaner that takes the dirt into the pool filters, as otherwise I would probably spend as much time cleaning the filters as I do...

Pool Cleaner that connects to pool vacuuming system

I have a 25M x 8M pool, 2.8M in the deep end. I am looking for a substantial robot pool cleaner to link into the filter system. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any advice.

    Closing chemicals needed

I saved my dichlor. I started off with CYA around 180 2 years ago. Dumping water wasn't an option as my pool is 440000 litres, so it took me the last 2 years of backwashing to get CYA down. Earlier this year my CYA had gone down to 30ppm so the saved dichlor came in handy to get it back up...

Newbie, based in Italy, with green algae problem

We found a local industrial supplier for the liquid chlorine, and are paying €15 for 25l drums - again 14%. We take 8 containers at a time to him, and he refills them. I think originally he charged us €3 each for the containers. Almost 3 times as much does seem a bit steep. Mind you we were...

Brilliant! Chlorine levels now holding, tested 5.5 today, with nothing added since the last posting. Haven't checked the CYA yet, was going to leave that until the weekend to make sure the reading is accurate. Having finally got the TA down to 90 the pH is holding much better too, so should...

    What exactly is TA

Yep, I find that confusing too, so some clarification from the experts would be much appreciated - in language that we can understand please:(

OK, so I thought I had given it plenty of time to mix before testing, obviously not. Todays readings: (only chlorine and pH) FC 10.5 CC 0.5 pH 7.2 nothing added today. I have been deliberately keep lowering the pH as I had very high TA (125+), so have been adding acid and aerating...

Test results one hour after I did it: FC 7 CC 0 pH 7.2 TA 90 (yesterday) CYA didn't test, thought it would be way too early. Don't do CH test all that often as we have mega hard water here, and from previous discussions last year I think we agreed I would just have to live with it. Was...

Newbie, based in Italy, with green algae problem

Thanks for getting back to me. I did that - it said 10kg would raise CYA 11 - so as I was down to 30 and we get loads of sun all day, I reckoned that would be ok. Is there any point in retesting CYA before next weekend, or should I just assume it is in there until then? And with the amount of...

I added 10kg as the pool calculator said for my size pool this would raise CYA by 11ppm. How long will this take to register? Will it take as long as solid CYA (i.e. up to a week)? Thanks for all the help I get from this forum.

Newbie, based in Italy, with green algae problem

OK, will start by only adding about 5kg of dichlor (it's a big pool) and measure CYA again tomorrow. Don't think the Italians are into cyanuric acid here, they just through dichlor/trichlor or the newer 4 in 1 or even 5 in 1, then empty and start again when things go wrong. Interesting site...

So, another 12 months on, crystal clear pool, CC less than 0.5ppm, but seem to be going through chlorine quicker than I used to. CYA now down to 30, and we are having relentless sun at present:) (well up to this morning when it is raining). Could it be time to cautiously introduce some of that...

Adding chemicals when the "returns" are in the pool floor

Re: Adding chemicals when the "returns" are in the pool floo Sounds like a good idea. Will have to see what is available here in Italy. We have thought about getting bulk liquid chlorine delivered to save all the humping, and a couple of friends have changed to BBB recently, so we could share...

Adding chemicals when the "returns" are in the pool floor

Re: Adding chemicals when the "returns" are in the pool floo Can give that a try, but there are times when we are putting 25L of chlorine in at one go. This is a big pool. See my signature for the volume of water we are talking about.

Adding chemicals when the "returns" are in the pool floor

Re: Adding chemicals when the "returns" are in the pool floo OK, will bear that in mind. Will just have to pour ultra slowly in several places to try to avoid that happening.

Adding chemicals when the "returns" are in the pool floor

Re: Adding chemicals when the "returns" are in the pool floo Thanks. The deep end is 2.8 metres deep, so brushing is challenging to say the least. Our vacuum brushes at the same time, so it does get brushed at the same time as cleaning, but difficult to do every night. My husband does the...
