    Air suction main drain

Thanks jim! I tried that and the bubbles did not slow or stop. I guess it might be a slow leak underground ? Haven’t noticed any water loss but haven’t run the pump very long yet either. Any other ideas? Thanks again! Just noticed I can open the main drain about 30% with skimmers 100%, after...

    Air suction main drain

Thank you! If it is the valve, I guess the air is coming in where the main drain suction line connects to the valve? Is replacing the valve the best option or can that be sealed some way? Or is it not worth the trouble to do anything for a small amount of air?

    Air suction main drain

Hello all, Just opened the pool for the season. For the most part, everything seems to be running smoothly. Of course there is always something...I have a small amount of air coming in from the suction side. Nothing is noticeably leaking. The air bubbles stop when I close the main drain (3-way...

Longest SLAM I’ve ever done.. still cloudy

Just an update: Day 37 since opening and I can now see the main drain (8 ft down)! Just barely can make it out. I think by next weekend it might be crystal clear. Back to running the pump 24 hrs and started using filter socks last week, which are collecting a considerable amount of gunk. No...

Longest SLAM I’ve ever done.. still cloudy

Chlorine demand seems normal, 1-2ppm per day depending on sun. I plan on raising the CYA to 40, but was waiting for clear water just in case I need to bring it back up to SLAM level. However, CC’s are near zero and everything looks good besides clarity. Improvement is extremely slow, but...

Longest SLAM I’ve ever done.. still cloudy

I pulled the cartridges out after my last post just to inspect them and they had collected a decent amount of junk even though the pressure only increased about 0.5 psi. I cleaned them since they were out. No real pressure increase since cleaned, but water is improving slightly. I’ve vacuumed to...

Longest SLAM I’ve ever done.. still cloudy

Initially the pressure rise was significant. Starting pressure is 13 psi and I had to clean the cartridges on day 2 (about 17 psi) and again on day 5 (about 17 psi). After each cleaning, the pressure returned to 13 psi. The water clarity improved significantly that first week. Then it took about...

Longest SLAM I’ve ever done.. still cloudy

These are my latest numbers: FC- 5.0 CC- 0.5 pH- 7.4 TA- 50 CH- 80 CYA- ~35 Any other ideas? It’s been about 3 1/2 weeks since i opened and I can see down about 4-5 feet (barely). If filter pressure isn’t rising, is it possible that there is nothing left to filter and something else is causing...

Longest SLAM I’ve ever done.. still cloudy

Willing to try anything at this point. I turned my skimmers back on though (too much debris sinking). At this point I will move on to my normal filter runtime and Cl levels. No noticable change in filter pressure since new cartridges were installed. I’ll give it time though. If it doesn’t clear...

Longest SLAM I’ve ever done.. still cloudy

I do have a main drain. I installed new cartridges on Wed and there has been a little improvement, but not much. I just switched to main drain only today after reading your post. Last time I checked my overnight FC loss was less than 1 ppm.

Yeah, might be worth replacing them at this point and see if that helps.

Longest SLAM I’ve ever done.. still cloudy

Hi all, I had some problems with keeping my tarp cover on this winter (very windy season) and it basically blew completely off early April. At this point I just removed it, but unfortunately lots if leaves/debris fell in. I scooped out as much as I could, but the pool was already green. I...

    Suck water from lines

I'll give it a try. The MD I will have to blow and airlock.

    Suck water from lines

Just a thought...Has anyone ever used a shop/wet vac to suck the water out of the skimmers and returns from the pool pad rather than blowing? Seems easier and less messy. The water would be lowered below the returns of course. Just wondering...Thanks.

    Is this liner tear patchable?

Will something like this do the trick? http://www.amazon.com/Boxer-Vinyl-Swimming-Liner-Repair/dp/B0039ZFL98/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1461448792&sr=8-1&keywords=boxer+100+vinyl+patch+kit

    Is this liner tear patchable?

Ok I will try that. I lost a considerable amount of water over the winter. I'm not really sure how much leaked out through the tear and how much i pumped off of the tarp (had a few holes in there). The water level is currently about 6 in below the tear and that area is dry and somewhat brittle...

    Is this liner tear patchable?

Did you (or would you) put the patches over the seam or above it? The tear is less than an inch above the seam. Also, how exactly did you get the water out from behind the liner? No algae in there at least. Just took the cover off and water looks pretty decent. Would be a shame to have to drain...

    Is this liner tear patchable?

Going to attempt to patch this week. Don't see any easy way of getting the water out from behind the liner. The liner didn't seem to shift or be out of place, it's just bubbling out in a few spots. Will the water work it's way out when i fill up the pool? How important is it to get the water out...

    Is this liner tear patchable?

Hi everyone, Unfortunately lost some water over the winter. Turned back the cover and found a roughly 1 1/2 inch tear in the liner very close to a seam. Looks like it's in a bad spot for patching...On the sidewall, just above the seam where the the step for the deep end is. The liner is 9 years...

Low Amps/ Low Volts Pool Pilot

All fuses are good. Guess I need a new controller?

Low Amps/ Low Volts Pool Pilot

I've tested in boost mode and got a slightly hight voltage reading (5-10v) and amps still less than 1. The controller is about 7 years old. Just looked up where the fuses are, I'll check them next.

Low Amps/ Low Volts Pool Pilot

Just started up my Pool Pilot SWG for the season and I'm getting an error message Low Amps Bad Cell? Test reads between 0 and 10 volts and less than 1 amp. I replaced the cell with an RC 42 and cell cord 2 years ago so they are still relatively new. Since last season I've been having some issues...

    Pentair Leaky o-ring

Update: Lubed up and put the new o ring back in. Leaks a lot less, but still a few drips. Plus it still drips when I shut it down. Oh well should have just left the original in and not messed with it. If it's not broke, don't fix it I guess.

    Pentair Leaky o-ring

Thanks. I never lubed the original and haven't had any problems until the few drips on start up/shut down which started last year. I contacted the seller of the generic one I bought and they said I have to lube it otherwise it will leak. This makes me think this is an inferior product and I am...

    Pentair Leaky o-ring

Any advice here would be appreciated. I have a Pentair Sta Rite System 3 Cartridge filter and last year I noticed it would leak just a few drips from the midsection of the filter body upon start up and shut down, but would stop after a second or two. I assumed this was an indication that the...

    Algae Fighting

Thanks! I figured as long as the CYA is soft enough to put through the skimmer w/o clogging anything then there is no harm in that. I squeezed it out of the sock very slowly after hours of soaking. Either way I figured I couldn't backwash or start shocking for at least 3 days. I used the...
