Suck water from lines

Just a thought...Has anyone ever used a shop/wet vac to suck the water out of the skimmers and returns from the pool pad rather than blowing? Seems easier and less messy. The water would be lowered below the returns of course. Just wondering...Thanks.

Your idea will work if you use a shop vac and air compressor at the same time. I use a shop vac with the skimmers only while clearing the lines out with the Cyclone. The pool returns will only work this way if water is lowered below the returns. The main drain requires trapped air and only an air compressor or professional pool blower will work. I am not confident in a shop vac for a main drain.

You can give the shop vac a try by itself and see how it works. Please report back to us, but remember there is a tremendous amount of water in 1.5" plumbing that runs 30-60 feet and more. Thanks!
