Opening above ground Intex pool in PA

With temps rising I want to get a jump on opening our 9x18 above ground Intex pool. When I closed it we drained the water below the pump line and put a mesh cover on top. This weekend I noticed the water was turning green. Should I refill the water (currently 2/3 full) and then SLAM or SLAM...

    Green water

FC dropped from 22 last night to 19 this morning. Water was clear, then I vacuumed and it got cloudy with a super light green tint. I am continuing the SLAM this morning and bringing the FC to 28 (as recommended through the app). Still CC is 0. So I just keep SLAM until the ONLT passes...

Not in a couple weeks, the pool math app says CYA 70 is good for FC 3 - 10?

    Green water

Yes, it was clear, then we vacuumed and it instantly turned green. That’s when I checked the levels and saw they were okay but since it turned green thought I should slam? So I used my pool math app to find appropriate chlorine addition

    Green water

I added 128 oz of chlorine an hour ago to bring it to SLAM level. The pool was green but all other results were good so I thought I should try slamming. I just checked the FC level an hour after adding the recommended chlorine and that is where the 22 came from. Prior to the chlorine addition...

    Green water

FC 4 TA 50 CYA 70 Salt 3200 CH 20 pH 7.4 This is a new one for me. Haven’t used pool in a week. Husband took cover off today to vaccume and water was clear. As soon as he started to vacuum it turned green. My levels look good so not sure what the issue is?

This is great info, thank you. If I. The morning the ph is still not low enough is it okay to add the MA this time, being that I added the dry acid already tonight?

I had liquid, the warning in the bottle scared me off. It said not to combine with chlorine so I thought I may have purchased the wrong thing

    Just opened and green!

So I added the dry acid tonight, hoping I can start adding the chlorine tomorrow and then the CYA to start SLAM. How long do you have to wait in between adding?

    Just opened and green!

So I purchased Muriatic Acid 31.45% and ph down to lower my ph to 7.2. When I went to the app to see which one would be better it doesn’t give me an option for the liquid at this strength only something called braum? Not sure how much to add or which would would be better, liquid or the powder?

    Just opened and green!

This is the first year I am opening my above ground SWG 9x18 Intex with water left from last year. We drained halfway when we closed and had water delivered yesterday to fill. The water was green upon opening from the winter and just added fresh to it. Now I have 0 FC and not registering CYA...

So this afternoon the green is almost cleared up, thank goodness! Unfortunately the CYA is still high (100) but my FC is 7.5 so I figure for now I am okay. It is supposed to rain the next 4 days so hopefully it may come down some. I will retest then and may be back for more guidance :)

I may try that, my sand pump seems to be helping, when I backwash it is a yucky brown ( technical term)

I am not sure if it was treated with CYA but doubt it as it was town water. I may have been unclear earlier... the 80 was already doubled, when I did the diluted test to confirm a more accurate CYA level the dot disappeared at 40, so I doubled it. I tested today since it is a bright sunny day...

My Taylor kit didn't come with a sample but I did follow the "Tips" section on how to do the test just as you outlined above. I also let the water get to room temp today before testing just in case that was the culprit. If I drain a little water off and put some more in it should lower it...

So I did another test this morning after running the SWG and pump last night: FC 5.5 (this is rising slowly since we just started running the SWG yesterday) CC 0 TA 50 pH 7.0 CH 80 Salt 3600 CYA 100 (on a normal test), when I did the diluted test to see how high it really was it showed 80...

We had to drain all the water this year, there was only about 3 inches from last year left when I opened this year, so it was basically a new open. My salt level is slightly high too at 3600 instead of 3500
