Differences between Doughboy models? Resin or Steel?

I need to replace my current pool, which is 10 years old and starting to fall apart (one wall leaning a bit out, and a hole at the bottom under the skimmer where it rusted through and I can touch the liner from the outside). I've decided to go with a Doughboy pool since I have a deep end, and...

    Intex SWG out of stock?

I just checked there, they don't seem to sell Intex parts. Normally the whole unit only costs about $250.

    Intex SWG out of stock?

One of my cheap Intex SWG died, as they do every couple years, so I was looking to buy a new one to replace it and it seems like they are sold out everywhere other than Amazon, where they are triple their normal price. Is this a covid supply shortage that will eventually resolve itself, so I...

Any inexpensive competition for Intex SWG?

My Intex SWGs seem to have decided 3+ years is about their lifespan, and given up working. When I bought them back then there was nothing even close price-wise in competition. Is that still the case? Or does anyone else make a relatively inexpensive SWG now? Because of my pool size, I buy 2...

Is an oversized liner ok or not?

I am going to be ordering a replacement liner for my pool in the next day or so. My pool is 18' by 38 1/2', with a deep end, so I will need an overlap expandable liner. The cheapest expandable patterned liners I can find are for 21' by 41'. Since it's an overlap expandable liner, is it ok to...

How long does an intex SWG last?

I have dual Intex SWG for my pool (plumbed in parallel since my pool is too big for just one), first set lasted about 3 years, second set has lasted 2 years so far, and were still working when I closed last year so I assume they will be working for this year also. I haven't had to clean them or...

    Replace liner or not?

I've cleaned up a green swamp before, the first spring opening up I accidentally dumped the winter cover full of leaves/horrible water into the pool because I didn't pump the water off the top first... a stupid mistake I'll never do again lol. So I know with a bit of work it can be done...

    New equipment recommendations?

Yeah, I joined in 2011 when I was building my pool, and the advice then helped a lot :) Right now, because of not closing my pool for winter, and not having a working pump/filter, my pool is a nice shade of swamp green lol. (I'm considering draining it and fixing or replacing my liner also, I...

    New equipment recommendations?

When I first got my pool, for the first 2 years I only cleaned it about 2-3 times a year. For the last year or two though, I've had to clean it a lot more often, although I don't know if that's because I didn't keep up with my pool as much and it was cleaning out more algae than it should be...

    Replace liner or not?

I am considering if I should replace my liner or not. I built the pool a bit over 5 years ago with the help of my dad and brothers rather than professionals, so since the beginning the liner has had wrinkles, which weren't too bad, and somewhat expected since I dug out a deep end and have an...

    New equipment recommendations?

After being busy with things and vacation this fall, and needing a new cover before closing my pool, I somehow never got around to closing it this year... and learned the hard way that my procrastination has some costs. My pump and filter are both cracked from the water freezing, so I need a...

    Which robotic cleaner to choose?

I'm not an expert, but in shopping around to buy one for myself the past couple weeks, I decided on a Dolphin Primal x3 for $600 (basically a DX3 with cartridge filters it looks like, one of their "custom" variations I guess)...

Automatic cleaner for vinyl pool with deep end?

    I'm considering the Dolphin DX5, $770 at http://www.poolsupplyworld.com/Dolphin-Dynamic-DX5-Robotic-Automatic-Pool-Cleaner/Dynamic-DX5.htm, or a Dolphin Nautilus, $600 at...

Automatic cleaner for vinyl pool with deep end?

The wrinkles/ridges are maybe 1/2 inch to an inch wide, mostly flat, not too many actually standing up. The worst area is the flat ledge between the walls and the deep end, where there are a ton of them because of how the liner is changing angles so much on a curve etc.

Automatic cleaner for vinyl pool with deep end?

I am looking to get an automatic cleaner for my pool this year, since last year I think I spent more time vacuuming than I did swimming... I think I'll go swimming more often if my pool's cleaner and I don't have to spend an hour vacuuming first. My pool is an above-ground pool with a dug out...

    BBB Method is warmer climates.

Bleach is chlorine. If you can find liquid chlorine at a pool store cheaper than in bleach, then buy that. Just have to compare what % of chlorine each has (obviously you only need half as much 10% chlorine as 5%). Chlorine in a solid state is always mixed with something else that only...

    Heat Pump questions

Thanks for everyone's advice, I want it mostly to just keep the water warmer during the spring/fall, and add a couple weeks to the swimming season, so I decided the heat pump was the way to go. And I agree that $1,000 is too much to pay for a couple days maybe of cooling off water a little, so...

Re: This had to be brought up before but I can't it: Is ther Yeah, I have a pentair pump and have scraped my knuckles more than a few times opening it up... by the end of last summer I was just kicking at one of the tabs with the bottom of my shoe/sandal until it loosened up enough to open...

    Savannah sings the National Anthem

Wow, I was just watching the Voice auditions from a couple weeks ago, and recognized a familiar name :) Congrats on making it! Good luck :) (I know this is a really old thread, but I just had to resurrect it since I had recommended her going on the Voice a couple years ago ;) )

New Homeowner, first opening, BROWN pool [pictures!]

That reminds me of my pool last spring when I accidentally dumped my winter cover and all the leaves in it into my pool... it took me like a month to clean out all of the leaves in the deep end. It's amazing how many leaves can hide down there when you can't see the bottom... and all those...

How much more acid will I need to add with a SWG?

I have a SWG, and I don't know if we just get acid rain here or something, but my PH has always been on the low side rather than high. The higher CYA for a SWG is because it adds it more consistently, so there is usually less need for shocking etc. And the higher CYA makes the sun not burn...

    Heat Pump questions

Yeah, that was sort of my thoughts. My sister-in-law and a friend (the 2 people other than me who swim in my pool the most) claimed there were a few days last year that the water "was like bathwater" and not very refreshing, but I don't remember them actually not wanting to swim lol.

    Heat Pump questions

I don't have a natural gas connection at my house, so I'm guessing propane would be more expensive and more of a hassle to use, which is why I'm leaning towards a heat pump. I don't plan to go swimming if the air temp is less than say 70 or 75, so I'm not planning to run it in temperatures...

    Heat Pump questions

I am looking to get a heat pump for my pool this spring so I can start swimming earlier and more than I was able to last year, and have a couple questions, if anyone can give advice or opinions. I am considering getting either: Hayward HP21104T HeatPro 110,000 BTU for $2,650...

A unique idea? (Dane's pool thermometer)

Now that looks inventive... I am needing a new pool thermometer since mine was giving me wildly varying readings at the end of last year that I didn't believe at all. Will have to try this out.

Think am in big trouble. help

Lots of people on the forums here have had pool that look that bad and turned them into sparkling clear water. The basic steps are: 1. Read Pool School (pool-school/) , especially the shocking your pool section. 2. Buy a good test kit (see pool-school/pool_test_kit_comparison) 3. Be prepared...

will an intex SWG (model 54601E) work in a 21ft AGP ?

I had the same thinking you have, but since my pool is a little bigger than they recommend, I got 2 units (one connected before each of my returns). I haven't nailed down exactly how long to run them, but it looks like the 2 will keep up my chlorine in around 4 hours each. And if one dies, I...

Questions about my newly installed 2 speed pump
