    Hayward XStream Replacement

Last year I replaced the pump for my Hayward Xstream 150 Sq Ft System. This year the locking ring broke, boy was I surprised when I found out why the pool was losing water! I'm looking at a new system, I could replace with the same but is there a better setup for a 150-200 sq ft filtration system?

    Chlorine Testing

Yes, that is exactly what I was asking. The input is appreciated. I like the idea of going to a daily OTO test and then using the powder once a week.

    Chlorine Testing

I currently use the powder for testing chlorine level. I'm curious if there are drops that I could use to test chlorine. The powder is sometimes a pain.

So many times I have posted questions about maintaining my pool but not this time..... I just wanted to say how much help this forum has been and how this method is tried and true and is the fastest and most economical way to maintain your pool. My pool was green, swamp green, yet in just...

Returning from Vacation - Pool Green

I was gone 2 weeks and the water was perfect prior to leaving. It was warm - high 80s and even a little warmer than that some days.

Returning from Vacation - Pool Green

I've checked my home security camera and this is what I'm going to see when I get home. I'm curious what you guys would suggest for cleaning it up as quickly as possible.

For a Friend - HIGH CYA / Cloudy Water

"That's where the disconnect is here. We are looking at the overstabilization as the problem, you are considering the cloudiness the problem." I couldn't agree more with this statement, I guess my question is not why it's bad or how to fix. I know how to fix it!!! My question is why would a...

For a Friend - HIGH CYA / Cloudy Water

So... he had the pool company out and was told that there were some phosphates in the water and his chlorine was low. They put something in for the phosphates and added chlorine. They told him the pool will clear up in a day or two. Let me put this disclaimer that I love the trouble free...

For a Friend - HIGH CYA / Cloudy Water

Based on this - how was the pool maintenance company maintaining clear water with such a high CYA. I'm guessing they could get it clear without draining it. How would they do it?

For a Friend - HIGH CYA / Cloudy Water

Asking for a friend and I'm trying to help him run the pool the trouble-free style. Current tests came back at PH 7.2 Alkalinity 140 CC less than 1ppm CYA - (I didn't try diluting it but lost the black dot about 1/2 or 3/4 of the way to the 100 mark) It's a 20x40 - approx 17000 gallons...

Chlorine - Algaecides - Green Air

I agree with all of you - but then I'm back to copper causing the green hair and I'm showing that I don't have any. Hence the confusion. On a second note - what have you guys found as the best way to find "your TA levels" - that is, what seems to keep the PH most balanced. Dave

Chlorine - Algaecides - Green Air

I took my water to be tested and it has no iron and no copper. Here's where I'm confused, I'm being told that having a alkalinity that is too low will also cause the greening of hair. I see here that the recommended alkalinity level are around 90 - They are saying - "Arvidson" that it should...

Chlorine - Algaecides - Green Air

I don't know how much copper is in my fill? I'm curious as to the best way to test that. Is there a kit. I really don't believe there is any.

Chlorine - Algaecides - Green Air

Going with the theory that it's something I have added. Is there any way to test for it or monitor the levels and then the next step is how to remove it. I use the pool chlorine that I often find on sale at menards by the gallon and straight muratic acid for ph. Baking soda has been used to...

Chlorine - Algaecides - Green Air

So.... it’s happening again. My daughters hair is getting that greenish tint. Is there a copper test kit that you recommend or is there a way to stop this from happening. Any ideas? Where is this copper coming from?

Variable Speed Pump on an semi-inground

I've got a approx 16,000 gallon semi inground Kayak Pool - 16x32 with a 5.5 deep end. I'm looking at replacing my single speed Hayward pump with either a two speed or a variable speed. Is it overkill for the variable speed? - It's nice because there's a $275 Comed rebate and it would give me...

Chlorine - Algaecides - Green Air

So... that begs the question, would the copper have come from my well water? Dave

Chlorine - Algaecides - Green Air

Okay - took my pool water to a pool store and they are showing 0.2ppm Copper. I'm guessing that's not what is contributing to my daughter's green hair. On a different note - they are showing the CH at 455 but I'm testing solidly at 140-160 everytime. Why the difference??? Dave

Chlorine - Algaecides - Green Air

My PH has been rock solid, I did just add some baking soda to bring up my TA a little as a preventative measure but that's about it. My heater is a Hayward 250 so it has the Cupro Nickel Heat Exchanger

Chlorine - Algaecides - Green Air

Yes - I do have a Hayward heater that I just added this year. I have always added only liquid chlorine and muratic acid. I added 1lb of shock and swim on a hot day that we had a bunch of kids in the pool. Dave

Chlorine - Algaecides - Green Air

I have never used anything but chlorine & muratic acid. When I filled the pool I added CYA to bring it to 30. Dave

Chlorine - Algaecides - Green Air

The green tint is from our pool - she's not at her friend's pool very often. There was a little rust in our water but that's it. Dave

Chlorine - Algaecides - Green Air

Okay, I've been using the TFP method and my pool is crystal clear but my daughter is getting some green tint to her blonde hair. No clue why.... My CYA is right around 40 and my FC is 4.00 Friends of ours have a pool that is maintained by a service and it keep a very low FC but super high...

Variable Speed Pump with wifi, z-wave, or bluetooth control

Is anyone aware of any variable speed pumps that with a simple add-on piece could be controlled by a phone or some device. I've looked at pentair and hayward automation and while cool, it simply does more than I need it to do. I thought I remember seeing some off brand add-on piece but now I...
