Pool Renovation - Recommendations and Repair Questions

Hi All, I’m planning a major pool renovation including new plaster, tile, coping, and deck resurfacing. The plan also requires several repairs to the concrete deck, bond beam, and pool shell. I had the pool renovated previously (before I discovered this forum) and I don’t want to make the same...

    Underground suction side water leak

The tees with the plugs were needed when I had a liquidator installed. I've since installed a SWG so they are all capped now. They don't impede anything. I agree it look like a Frankenstein setup, that's what happens after 30 years of maintenance (I inherited it about 15 years ago. However...

    Underground suction side water leak

Thanks for the verification. I'm going to try the sucking-in method first; however, I would worry about the silicone cracking due to the vibrations in the line. As an RV'er, I've learned silicone is a bad sealant for RV windows because, once it dries, it doesn't have much elasticity and, thus...

    Underground suction side water leak

Looking for suggestions on the easiest fix to my problem. I have a set of leaks in the underground fittings where three, very close, parallel lines (main drain + 2 skimmers) all have a 45-degree reducer elbow from 2" to 1.5". The leaks are on the 1.5 inch side. Because the pipes are so close...

    Help me choose!

Why? I don't see the relationship between the SWG and the automation system.

How do I remove skimmer weir?

Yes. The one in the shallow end was easier. It was a hot day in Austin so I didn't mind having to jump in the pool.

How do I remove skimmer weir?

Thanks for the replies. I've concluded that the weirs in my skimmers are not designed to be removed. So, my plan to cut them out would have been necessary if I needed to replace them. However, I mentioned my issue to a neighbor who happens to be a practicing PE (Professional Engineer) who is...

How do I remove skimmer weir?

I've searched TFP, YouTube, etc. trying to figure out how to remove the weir from my skimmer. The walls of my skimmer have bulged inward causing the weir to get stuck so I want to remove it, sand down the sides, and reinstall it. All the videos show newer models that have a spring type rod...

    Pool RX??!!

The product marketing claims that you can reduce by 50% the level of chlorine you need to maintain in your pool. It would stand to reason that 50% of the normal required chlorine is needed to fight algae and the rest is needed for sanitization. Does this make sense?

Where to buy Calcium Chloride in Austin

Thanks, MarkAZ. That price matches what I've been finding on the web. Update: according to their website, Autozone has some available for in store pickup here in Austin for about $1/lb...

How to perform an acid wash?

When I had my pool re-plastered, it soon started to show signs of white spotting due to improper plastering techniques. Over time, the white spots grew and became more and more porous causing stains from algae and the tannins in leaves to set deep into the plaster which cannot be cleared by a...

Where to buy Calcium Chloride in Austin

I know, right? I was surprised that the water was so soft. I've never had to add calcium here in Austin before when refilling my pool. I filled the pool from my garden hose and I do not have any water softer system in my home. The hardware store said it was unusual and that I should bottle...
