Pond to Paradise - it IS possible!

Hey everyone! I found TFP after a failure of a first year in our new house that came with a pool. I’ve followed the TFP way since 2016 now and will never go back! I live in Maine and since we lost our hard-sided above ground pool to frost heaves two winters ago, we now have to drain/take down...

    Keeping bears out of pool

Wow, Karen! What a crazy video! No advice on keeping them out, but entertaining video nonetheless!

    Iron Stains

Great idea! Thanks for chiming in! Can I ask what kind of AA everyone uses? Is it literally just vitamin C tabs? And I've never used sequestrate, any recommendations there?

    Iron Stains

Thanks for the reply! I'll try lowering my pH and treating the individual stains to see if the stains return or stay away. I might have to look into my options for fill water in the future...

    Iron Stains

I've been looking around the forum and have found the directions for a full pool AA treatment, but I'm wondering if this is necessary for my pool? Background: last year we filled our AGP from empty with pond water and slammed it to TFP clear. This year, when we opened, we filled it back up...

    AGP alarms and toddlers

We have a 5 year old and twin 3 1/2 year olds. We are CONSTANTLY talking to them about "water safety" and they all know they are never to be on the pool deck without an adult and without a life jacket. (We have an AGP with a deck around it attached to an upper deck that's attached to the...

Taylor test kit is on my doorstep

Ah! My bad! Just figured it was worth double checking, continue on!

Taylor test kit is on my doorstep

On my Kit the "smaller" sample size is the 10ml sample and it says to multiply by 0.5. It's the 25ml bigger sample size that you multiply by 0.2.....just want to double check you are still multiplying correctly. By the way you worded your response, it seems like you should be multiplying by...

    Pool startup question

I'm updating my thread just in case anyone comes across it and wants to know how it ends [emoji4] I added enough stabilizer to go up 20ppm and now have a CYA of 40. I slammed until we got all the leaves and debris (including my lost leaf rake) out of the pool even though it was clear the whole...

How about the weather in the Northeast finally cooperating????

I'm in Maine...water temp keeps fluctuating from 65 in the am to 69 by late afternoon....I'm dying for it to break 70!

AGP Lights - Let's see them

Ugh, I would love to get lights for my pool but I live in Maine, which equals black flies, mosquitos, moths galore. Lights = bad news for bugs! My deck lights will have to do, the bugs can stay up there! BUT, I do love how pretty everyone's pools look all lit up! [emoji4]

    Pool startup question

Checked my CYA today, it is cloudy at the top of the tube, but I can still see the dot. I have stabilizer to add, I'm shooting for 30: do I count my starting level at 10? Or 20? In other words, if I'm not sure exactly what my level is, how do I calculate how much to add?

Lost my net in my cold Maine pool...

Ooooh! I gotcha! That's a brilliant idea! Thank you!

    Pool startup question

OK, so I've been able to keep the pool clear and blue by keeping the FC around 10. Still working on the last few leaves since losing my leaf rake yesterday. My CYA reagent will be here today, so my question is this: it's cloudy. Is there any point in checking it at all when it's cloudy in order...

Trying to picture this....how do I get the line UNDER the net and back?

Lost my net in my cold Maine pool...

Hmmmmm, I was going to make my husband jump in...but maybe I'll be nice to him and ask the neighbor kid. Haha! Too bad my son is only 5.....[emoji12]

Lost my net in my cold Maine pool...

Whoops. I lost my leaf rake in the middle of my 65ish degree pool. [emoji24] Anyone want to go for a nice, "refreshing", swim for me?? Or better yet, anyone have any ideas on how to fish it out without having to take a swim yet? Brrrrrr!
  28. Mimipell521

    Pool startup question

That's what I hope will happen!! Still haven't figured out how to get all the leaves out of the middle without climbing into the still VERY cold water, but it's my next project!

    Pool startup question

    Ok will do. Thanks again!

    Pool startup question

Ok, I can do that. I'll get a fresh CYA reading when my replacement comes in. Should I add the baking soda now or wait until the SLAM is complete and I have an accurate CYA and am maintaining FC? I feel like I've read in other threads not to mess with the other numbers during a SLAM?
