    What is your daily dosage?

Pool is fairly small, so I just pour a few glugs in and test a while later. Not very scientific, but as long the FC is within a range, I'm happy.

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Our local Walmart, and Loews is flush with gallons of 10% sodium Hypochlorite. If people only knew that it was half the price of Chlorox.......

Helping a friend get a new pool ready

No expert here, but I maintained a 25,000 gallon IG vinyl lined pool for several years. Getting the TA down isn't too critical, if the pH is stable. I'd worry about that later if needed. Currently, my TA is very high, at 180, but my pH is stable, so nothing need be done. I would start getting...

Green won't go away no matter what I do

Doesn't algae turn cloudy, or whitish if the bleach has killed it. You might not be slamming with enough chlorine......but I digress. he main point I wanted to make, is that when we had a very contaminated pool for a couple of spring openings, we needed a little diatomacous earth added to the...

Ok, be honest, who brings their shampoo to the pool?

hahaha ...... well, this is the first year with the above ground pool, so, not sure if we'll take it down in the winter. When we had our 25,000 gal in ground pool, a little shampoo never hurt anything. Now it definitely clouds the water, but it clears quickly, and yes, I keep an eye on the FC.

Be honest, who keeps their FC levels quite a bit higher than recommended?

Guess I'm not alone. If I get to the minimum recommended it's a mistake. I keep it a bit high, so there is a slight buffer against my bad memory or laziness :)

Ok, be honest, who brings their shampoo to the pool?

Water first, then soap later, we trick him. I guess we're just ghetto pool swimmers.

Ok, be honest, who brings their shampoo to the pool?

Well, the pool is about the only way we can get our son to get clean. He is afraid of soap and water, so you can bet the shampoo follows him to the pool. :)

Why do recommended CYA levels seem high to me?

Yeah, it does take several days to really level out. Thanks.

Be honest, who keeps their FC levels quite a bit higher than recommended?

I do. Somewhere between target and slam works for me. If my target is 5 and my slam is 12.....anything between 5-10 is fine with me.

Why do recommended CYA levels seem high to me?

I might raise my CYA a little, but unless I'm losing my mind, and that's distinctly possible, my FC doesn't seem to drop much faster with less CYA.

Why do recommended CYA levels seem high to me?

OK, thanks. I'll keep a close eye on it, and raise it if necessary.

Why do recommended CYA levels seem high to me?

I maintained a 25,000 gallon pool for a few years, with the help of this forum, and it's members. We have since moved, and now have a small 3,500 gallon pool. I was always more comfortable maintaining the large pool with a CYA of 20. Wasn't that hard to keep the FC levels up, and was easy to...

    I'm a failure for father's day

Our local Walmart is loaded with pool chlorinator with 10% sodium hypochlorite. Lowes has the same thing. Just keep working at it, and keep the fliter clean as many times as you have to.

High TA and good pH, should I lower TA?

The pH is 7.5 and seems fairly stable. My TA is very high at 180. Since the pH isn't fluctuating, do I need to lower it? Thanks, Ed

Vacuum suggestion for Summer Waves Elite needed please.

Thanks. Am going to experiment with the run times for the pump. Keeping clean filters is a first priority. We have an 8 month swim season here, and would like to get a full season from the pump if possible. A new pump will cost twice what we paid for the pool. am going to start researching a...

Summer Waves Elite with SFX 1000 pump. Can I run the pump full time?

Thanks for the replies. Am going to do some experimenting on the pump run time. We have about an 8 month swimming season here, and would like to get a full season from the pump. A new pump costs more than the pool. I checked the filter after only one day, and was surprised at the amount of...

Summer Waves Elite with SFX 1000 pump. Can I run the pump full time?

A little nervous about running this cheap pump full time. When we had an in-ground with a good pump we ran it full time, because part time couldn't keep the pool clean. Is there a run time recommendation for above ground pools? Ours is 14' x 48", and holds 3,500 gallons. Thanks, Ed

Vacuum suggestion for Summer Waves Elite needed please.

Thanks. Also assume that I can run the pump full time? I've tried the "part time" thing in the past with poor results. We have the SFX 1000 pump. Wasn't sure how they will hold up running full time.

Vacuum suggestion for Summer Waves Elite needed please.

Thank. I'm just confused on how the vacuum, with the mesh bag on top, in the maintenance kit works. Does it just force junk up into the bag when you push it across the bottom, or does it need the vacuum plate and hose so the pump does the sucking? edit: I see now. The basic maintenance kit...

Vacuum suggestion for Summer Waves Elite needed please.

Just put up a 14' Summer Waves Elite. What is a good vacuum hook up to use. I see that they sell a vacuum head, but I haven't fornd much about how to use it. Any info on that, or any other way, would be great. Thanks, Ed

Can I let the pump motor run 24/7?

Motor doesn't seem louder than normal. Maybe it was just a one time thing, but not likely. Problems never seem to go away once they start :-) Just going to leave it running for now and hope for the best. I was originally thinking it was like when a starter in a car goes bad, the brushes or...

Can I let the pump motor run 24/7?

Thanks for all the replies. The start capacitor looks like a fairly easy fix, there's a couple of nice youtube videos on it. Am sure I could do it, but why risk a bigger problem at this point. I like the idea of just letting it run for now.

Can I let the pump motor run 24/7?

We sold house/pool, and I'm maintaining the pool until closing in 2 weeks. Our pump motor is old (original equipt about 15 years old,), and this am when I went to turn it on, the motor didn't engage, and I heard a humming sound. I immediately turned it off, and tried it again, and it started...

Holes in liner, and we're moving, suggestions please. Pics!

Ok, sorry, I linked something with personal information, so the mod properly deleted it. Will post some individual photos of the pool later, have lots at home......at work now. Agree it might be better if we replace the liner, and we just might, but can't see replacing it right now......maybe...
