    Checking in after LONG absence…

I haven't been here in awhile either, nice to see a name I finally recognize! TFP popped up right at the time when there was a critical void to fill. It was great back then and has come a long way.

My booster pump stopped working (connected to polaris 280). Should i replace pump or buy a suction or robot.

I've debated this very issue for quite some time and I still have my 280. I think the main driver for me to keep it is it's simplicity. It has a few moving parts, nothing electrical and just does its thing. It's been cleaning the pool for 15 years now and stays in the pool year round. I have...

Polaris 380 Suddenly Tail Not Moving and Slow

Looks to me like your booster pump discharges directly into a dedicated pipe, just as it should. there are not valves to adjust. The pump looks fairly new, so that's probably not it. Make sure the pressure relieve on the wall socket is tight and that is not leaking. My polaris was under...

    Aquapure PLC1400 Error 120

Thanks for the follow-up. My Aquapure 1400 stopped producing chlorine yesterday and I'm trying to troubleshoot. I _think_ its the cell, it's about 6 years old. The control panel is beat to all heck by the sun, the right most digits in the display no longer work, and it has been throwing...

How to Add Liquid Chlorine (with no return jets to pour it near)

I'd just pick the furthest spot from the skimmers and pour it in one spot, you'll just have to wait a bit longer for it to circulate before swimming. With a 1.5 hp pump, you probably have fairly good circulation.

    Should I replace my pump?

That would be a no-brainer for me. I was waiting for my 1hp to die before I replaced it, it was fairly noisy this year so I put a v-green variable speed motor on my existing wet side. My bill dropped considerably from last year, it should pay for itself in a few months. With a $350 rebate...

    SWG HELP!

New gunite pools use a lot of acid. When my pool was new, I too was adding 1-2 gallons of acid a week, it gradually slowed over the year. As suggested, if you want to solve your pool problems yourself you need to test yourself and stay on top of everything. When the pool was new I was testing...

Vacuum suction weak is 2 skimmer pool

Yes, you are blocking both the main drain and skimmer 1 by rotating the valve all the around. IMO, this is a better solution to blocking the skimmer, unless you like vacuuming from the other skimmer.

Vacuum suction weak is 2 skimmer pool

You may be in luck. You can shut off both the drain and skimmer 1 if you rotate the valve all the way around. The Jandy valves have a tab on them that can be broken off to allow it to rotate 360 degrees. It is there to prevent shutting off both paths, but the breakable tab 'advanced mode'...

Plug wall outlet for Polaris after going robotic?

Minimally, I'd likely remove the booster pump and use the polaris flex line to bridge the pump input to the return. I wouldn't want the unused motor to sit on the pad waiting to start leaking. Removing all traces of the Polaris is also an option. I'd probably blow out the Polaris return line...

Vacuum suction weak is 2 skimmer pool

Blocking the other skimmer is the best route. What does the bottom of the skimmer look like? Can a PVC plug be screwed in there? You also have the option to add a new 3-way in there to individually block one or both skimmers. Post a pic of your pump pad for some suggestions. With the all...

Using Polaris Booster Pump as Portable Vacuum

Yes, the Polaris wet end is specifically designed to build pressure. the motor itself is likely nothing special. You can tell by the input and output pipe size, I think it's like 1". A similar 3/4 hp filter pump will still be 2" - 2 1/2" pipe size You may have better luck using it as a...

Using Polaris Booster Pump as Portable Vacuum

I doubt you'll find it really useful as a suction pump and it likely won't move the volume of water needed as an effective vacuum. It is designed to build pressure and not move a lot of water.

    Loud Pump

Do you notice a difference in the pressure in the spa, that is where you'll likely want the extra gpm. You'll save a bit on electricity with the smaller impeller since you'll be moving less water, but if you like the spa as it was with the smaller impeller, I don't see an issue.

Direct RS485 communication with Jandy heater

Hey, thanks for your response. I did see those ports in the instructions, but was trying to get a more advanced interface, like reading the pool temp, reading and setting the pool temp on the heater as well as turn it on and off. I was just about to give up on this, but I may take that route...

Direct RS485 communication with Jandy heater

Hello All, I have a Jandy Jxi heater that I am a trying to communicate directly to using the RS485 port. I see a few projects around that do so via the Aqualink, but I do not have that hardware. I have been able to connect to my Aquapure with this project: sfeakes/AquapureD Any help would...

    V-Green pump with V-Link automation

I just installed the v-green and it was fairly easy. I think the hardest part was removing the impeller (had to use a strap wrench) and the motor bolts didn't want to break loose. All is together and running great. I have a few questions though. It seems I have to continue using my dual...

    V-Green pump with V-Link automation

Thanks Chris, this is great info, I ordered the pump yesterday. I saw the current automation offerings and none really suited what I wanted to do. I think I'll just stick with the pump for now and work with the on-board timer, I'll then decide weather to get the v-link and try to see if I...

    V-Green pump with V-Link automation

Hello All, I currently have a Jandy SHPF 1 HP pump that is about 15 years old now and beginning to make a lot of noise. I'd like to replace it with a variable speed pump and like not to change the plumbing. This leaves my options to another Jandy pump or keep my existing wet end. I've been...

    Backyard hose bib not working

Most houses have shut-offs to kill the water to the bibs for freezing conditions. I do not know if they do that in Orlando as it does not freeze there much, but I'd start there. Check where your water supply comes into the house by the pressure regulator.

    Concrete delivery access problem

My driveway is cracked to heck from dump trucks during my pool build years ago, I was told of the risks. I'd suggest keeping all heavy trucks off the drive. Pay for the pump now or pay to replace the driveway later.

    DIY pressure side vacuum?

I think you'll be fine. Pumps in general can run with high head pressure without issue, the pump will also use less energy too.

    SWG install tomorrow

Your description when compared to the pictures have me a bit confused. What I see in the pictures is a subpanel with three breakers. One unknown, one for a light and one for the GFI plug that the pump and some other device is plugged into. You need to read the manual for the SWG you're...

    First filter clean and SLAM!

You'll see what dirty really looks like after a year. I've got a wall of trees behind my pool and horrid pollen in the spring, and I don't see much over 5psi pressure rise over the year, so I clean post pollen in the late spring.

Converting backwash filter port from rigid piping to hose?

You may want to put the hose fitting closer to the ground so the hose is not dragging on the plumbing too much. I'd propose to cut the down pipe about 4"-6" from the ground and put a 90 on it toward the outside. Then put some concrete pavers below the 90 to support it and below the other end...

    First filter clean and SLAM!

Unless you like cleaning filters, which I do not, you can probably go a lot longer between cleanings. They may look dirty, but you have a lot of filter surface area you can fill between cleanings. I'd keep an eye on the pressure rise or once a year whichever hits first. Once a month will get...

    Need help with heat pump

Can you get the motor specs off the motor? Matching the HP, voltage, RPM and bolt pattern, you may be able to find it cheaper. As soon as you add Pentair on there, I think the price jumps. Of course, then you run the risk of it not fitting right. A good HVAC supply house would be able to...
