Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

How would I measure the pressure of the water coming out of the hose?

Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

To clarify: The pressure release valve leaks when the hose is attached, with or without the inline filter. The only time it didn't leak was when I had ONLY the wall connector hooked up with no hoses, nothing after, nada. I have a large pool, so I have two swivels plus 3 hoses between the...

Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

YES! A clue. I just tried removing the in-line filter section and reattached the rest of the hose (sans backup valve and vacuum). Water has started leaking again from the pressure release valve. (Although the pressure coming from the end of the hose is intense, even with the pressure release...

Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

Can you explain what you mean by the ID of the swivel? I have a couple of swivel joints.

Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

I've tried three separate new pressure release valves, all with the same issue. So no debris. But @Rocket J Squirrel's suggestion to remove everything and try the wall connector by itself DID allow the pressure release valve to stop releasing water. Not sure what that means.

Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

My understanding, from reading a lot of posts here, is that the pressure release valve is designed to release extra water. So if your vacuums are running great even with the turbulence, it's provably fine. (Do you know your wheel RPM?) This started for me because my wheel RPM is low, which...

Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

I'm happy to take pictures or a video if you tell me what you want to see. I bought a brand new wall connector with a pressure release valve. It's locking tight to the wall. No screws are missing.

Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

OK. This is interesting. I tired removing the hose completely - AND THEN the pressure release valve didn't leak. It's progress. But I'm not sure what to try next. The next connection down is the in-line screen -- and that's clean. What do you think @Rocket J Squirrel?

Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

What do you mean by head unit? If you mean the vacuum itself, I've taken that off, as well as the backup valve. The pressure release valve still leaks enough water from the wall to make the water at the surface bubble like it's boiling.

Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

Yes. It's clear. I've also taken it out twice and "cleaned" it, just in case.

Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

Yes, I have tried three different pressure valves. All have leaked water when tightened down all the way. I haven't put in a restrictor disc, because my RPMs are already too slow.

Happy to take pictures. What do you want to see?

Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

I have taken off the vacuum and the backup valve. Water is still leaking from the pressure release valve.

Water come out of pressure release valve but RPMs are low

I've been troubleshooting my Polaris 3900 for a few weeks now. My RPMs are low - they struggle to reach 20. At the same time, my pressure release valve in the wall connector has A LOT of water coming out if it, even though it's screwed down all the way. I've cleaned my lines, checked the...

    Polaris 3900 low RPM

Hmmmm. I actually have a LOT of water coming out of the pressure relief valve on the wall connector, even though that valve is tightened all the way. The water is bubbling at the surface with all the extra water. So I think the pressure coming from the booster pump is good. But it's not getting...

Average salt reading is higher than instant?

My cell is generating chlorine, so this isn't a big deal. I'm just curious. Right now, my Aqua-Rite shows a higher number in the average salt reading than it does for the instant salt reading. I've not seen that before. Usually it's the opposite, as the system settles in. Has anyone else seen...

    Polaris 3900 low RPM

I have a trusty Polaris 3900 that is being finicky this season. I can't get the wheel RPM above 20, no matter what. The backup value is also firing strong and consistently, but it doesn't seem to have enough pressure to actually pull the vacuum out of corners and the like. It only manages to...

    Test Aqua-Rite flow switch

Thank you @ajw22. And what about testing the switch itself, as I mentioned above? Should taking out the switch and holding it closed/making it connect cause the NO FLOW light to go off?

    Test Aqua-Rite flow switch

We just opened our pool last week - always a tenuous moment, especially after the violent winter we had this year in Minnesota. Everything appears to be working fine, except my Aqua-Rite is stuck on a steady, red light "No Flow" - when there clearly is flow. I've backwashed multiple times, my...

When to start pumping melted snow off automatic cover

Tl;dr: Do I need to wait for all the snow/ice on my automatic cover to melt before I start pumping? It’s been a brutal winter here in the Upper Midwest. Almost 90” of snow, no real thaws. This week our calendar suddenly flipped and it’s in the 70s. (Highs were in the 30s still last week.)...

Rejuvenate a frayed pool cover rope

Last summer, one of the ropes on our automatic pool cover jumped the metal separator. By the time we figured out what was causing the pool cover to only open half way, the portion of the rope that was trapped on the metal was frayed. A pool cover technician said we can keep using it for now, but...

Minnesota: To Heat or Not To Heat

Hi all: Our 20-year-old Raypack has given up the ghost. It was a workhorse, but the elements finally caught up to it. The cost to replace is about $2300. I'm wondering how many Northerners here say a heater is a necessity and how many go without. Our pool is fairly large and deep. Water temp...

questions about pool opening in cold northern places

Hey all: We've had a rough winter here in Minnesota: cold, lots of snow (more than 70" here in the Twin Cities) and a really late start to spring. It was just last week that the snow finally melted enough for us to get the water off the pool cover. (And then my husband, per tradition, offered...

Does a SWG cell need to be cleaned if it hasn't been generating chlorine?

Forgive me, what is CSI? I thought cells do need to be cleaned every 3-4 months of operation, even under the best of circumstances.

Does a SWG cell need to be cleaned if it hasn't been generating chlorine?

Good news and a question. First, the good: My SWG has been out of commission this summer. Thanks to this board, I was 95% sure the "black disk" was the culprit, but I couldn't find anyone who would touch my circuit board - until today, when a good friend who is also an electrician came for...

FC tests higher than Pool Math estimates

I think my pool measurements are accurate. I've done multiple tests to ensure accuracy, and I know the settings are right in the calculator. Until the last few weeks, the calculator was always spot on (or close enough) so this is a new development. Like I said, it's not a big deal. But I know...

FC tests higher than Pool Math estimates

This isn't a big deal, but I'm curious. Lately, when I need to add chlorine to my pool, I calculate how much 12.5% Bosch to add using the Pool Math calculator. But when I test, about an hour later, my FC is much higher than expected - like 18 FC instead of 6. How is this happening? All my other...

Added almost 4 gallons of 12.5% but still not FC

I have a TK-2006 test kit (signature line). All my other water levels are within range for where I need to be. FC : 3 CC : 6 pH : 7.4 CYA : 50 I don't test my calcium much, since I have a vinyl liner. I've already started the SLAM process. I'm more curious if there are guidelines for...

Added almost 4 gallons of 12.5% but still not FC

Hey all: At this pointing the summer, I'm usually using my SWG to maintain my pool, but my circuit board is busted right now, so I'm using 12.5% bleach while we try to get that fixed. Everything was fine the last few weeks; I was able to keep my FC around 3-4. After a heavy swimmer load last...
