The t-shirt is picking up a rust color, but the poly-fil is not??? Am I doing something wrong?

Ok, I packed the poly-fil in an old T-shirt.

Managing Iron/Metals the clear, green tint.

When I place poly-fil in the skimmer basket, what do I use to contain the Poly-fil? Do I put it in something first?

Managing Iron/Metals the clear, green tint.

Read a few more posts...called a local pool supply store., perhaps more confused. Pool supply store said I needed to add something to the water to sequester the iron, then my cartridge filters will remove the iron precip? Is the poly-fil/skimmer method to be done with using one the products...

Managing Iron/Metals the clear, green tint.

Do I want to boost my Cl when I am using the poly-fil in the skimmer so that the Iron will form a precipitate?

Managing Iron/Metals the clear, green tint.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what draining 1/3 of my iron well water and refilling with iron well water would do to improve? Because I've dialed in the salt, I'd rather not dump the water. When I add the poly-fil to the skimmer, should it be contained in a mesh bag or pillow case...

Managing Iron/Metals the clear, green tint.

We just had our liner replaced and re-filled and salted our pool. Initially, the water looked clear and blue. Once I dialed in the SWC and brought the FC to around 2, a green tint developed, not cloudy, jut a tint as others have mentioned. I know our well has Iron concentration around 3ppm...

Size of pipes and various questions

No other features, just like the water to be clean and clear, and not a fan of cleaning the filters often. The cost of up sizing filters and pump is not significant, and should equate superior performance IMO.

Size of pipes and various questions

How large is your pool? We inherited a similar pool a few years back and after changing plumbing, filter, pump, and moving to a Salt Chlorination, have had very little maintenance. Flow can be improved by improving the above grade PVC diameter and correct fittings. Perhaps the best investment...

Bottom drain / skimmer diverter valve necessary?

Advice wanted on CH in Vinyl Salt Pool

Thanks. The heater is a Hayward 140btu heat pump. It has a Ti heat exchanger and the manual did not specify the CH, just said the TA and CH should not be high. Is there any benefit to increasing CH to 150 or so?

Advice wanted on CH in Vinyl Salt Pool

I just tested after installing a new Heat Pump and found the following values: FC 2.5 CC 0 PH 7.2 TA 50-60 CH 80-100 CYA 20 (low, but we have not had a problem with maintaining reasonable FC levels) The pool has a vinyl liner, SCG, and auto-cover. I had left the cover open for a week and had...

"Low Ambient" heat pump - Hayward HP21404TC

Re: "Low Ambient" heat pump - Hayward HP21404TC I do not, but also looking at that unit. I notice that it's performance is identical to the HP21404T at 50/80/63%, and it's COP is actually worse than the HP21404T at each temperature down to 50F where the T is 4.4 vs. the TC at 4.0...

    Heatpump purchase opinions wanted

The Max Flow rate on the Hayward says 75 gpm, whereas the Ultratemp is 120 gpm. I know that my pump/plumbing is capable of sending 100+ gpm to the heater, but would I want it to send more than 75 gpm?

    Heatpump purchase opinions wanted

I would like to order a 140BTU HP this week. I have Pentair equipment including an Easy Touch panel that I use to control a VS pump and IC unit, no other automation. I'd like the Easy Touch to work with the HP for scheduling control through their software. I'm attracted to the Hayward...

Switching to Salt Water – Need lots of help and advise, hardware selection

We notice the slight taste of salt at 3800ppm, it's not offensive, and it does not irritate our eyes. I like the IC40 + Easy Touch combo because it is like getting the easy touch for $250 which also serves as a sub panel and quick disconnect if mounted at the pool pad. The IC40 Power supply...

Switching to Salt Water – Need lots of help and advise, hardware selection

You will appreciate the TF-100 kit, and getting away from relying on the pool store. The pucks are definitely your CYA problem. We purchased a home with a 18x36 vinyl IG pool last year. The first thing I realized was that my filter was way under-sized, and that I could realize a cleaner pool...

    CYA adjustment before salt addition

Ok, thanks, thought so, but also did not know if it was a by-product of anything used in the TFP method. I'm aiming a bit low because I'm in the PNW where there is not a tremendous amount of sun, and because it is easier to raise, than lower. Is CYA a skin/eye irritant? One other Q, should I...

    In-Ground Cover Maintenance Question

I've been searching for some posts regarding the maintenance recommendations for In-Ground pool covers. This is my first season with a pool. To Bypass or not to Bypass???

Update: Thank you to everyone who helped me sort through this install. I especially appreciate the input regarding pressure and flow-rate in my particular set-up. Based on that information, I placed the IC-40 on a bypass loop similar to the one diagrammed above. I'm able to dial in the flow...

    CYA adjustment before salt addition

Preparing to add NaCl this weekend. Have the TFP Kit, CYA is over 100, If I dilute current pool water by 50% then it goes to approx 60. Currently dumping water. The pool was previously chlorinated with tablets. Question, how did CYA build-up so high in the pool? Did years of tablet use and...
