2nd Year TFP Rookie just opened AG in Wilmington, NC

Thanks Jeff, I've been enjoying a troublefree pool since I found this site. Unbelievable how much money I blew before I started doing my own water testing. By the way Pezzdog. I get my chlorine (aka Bleach) at Sam's Club on College Rd. You should see the looks I get at the check out line...

2nd Year TFP Rookie just opened AG in Wilmington, NC

Sorry it took so long, been pretty busy. I live near the airport, and I also brew. I get my supplies at Wilmington Homebrew on Wrightsville Ave. In fact, its time for another batch. BBB is awesome, and I have saved bundles of money. My pool water is crystal clear, and if I do mess up, I...

2nd Year TFP Rookie just opened AG in Wilmington, NC

I just opened the pool this week, and here are my numbers: CL-13 FC-0 TC-13 CYA-35 TA-80 pH-7.5 CH-well, my well water is so bad, we know its out of whack, so I don't even measure it anymore...its in the 480 range. Between my well water, and the initial use of all the bad chemicals before...

HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to turn

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to Is your pool round or rectangular? How deep? If round what diameter? If rectangular, length and width? In feet. Give me that, and I'll figure out your volume. I have a 20 foot diameter round above ground pool that is 4 feet deep...

HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to turn

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to If your FC was greater than 10, that pH reading will be off. IF....you accidentally let your FC's drop below 10, grab a quick pH test before you boost FC back to where it should be. If you get that low of a reading again, it might be...

I have my results from my K-2006 kit

Congrats on the clear water in your pool, and passing the OCLT. There is nothing quite like that feeling, when you know you can fix your other problems....like your low CYA, and not have to test the FC levels every 4 hours. My TFP has been almost 0 chemical maint. since I finished shocking. I...

HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to turn

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to Color is looking good, now its up to your filter to clear that mess out. Color looks real good. Now, all that dead algae and guk is the root cause of the turbidity.

I have my results from my K-2006 kit

One reason you could be losing FC is a lower CYA level. The other reason, is there could be biologics in the pool consuming it. Keep shocking, the chlorine consumption will fall as the CYA rises, and the live stuff dies. It will get better. My first 2 weeks were a plastic jug nightmare. Now...

HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to turn

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to Nope, my swamp took a month to clear. If the green is going away and turning to milk...that would be the first phase. Then the water will slowly begin to clear as your filter gets rid of the dead algae...which is the milk. My swamp...

    Cloudy water wont uncloudy ..

I'm not familiar with the K2006, but I'm pretty sure there are alternate directions for the DAPD Chlorine Drop Test that will allow you to use less reagent. Keep that FC up, and the water will clear. Make sure you clean that filter regularly while shocking...when your filter pressure rises...

    CYA Test

I have a speedstir. I'll try the smaller sample instructions, I just found that for the CH. I know its bad, its not going down. My fill water is major culprit....3 years of cal hypo would be the other culprit. I'll try and order that standard, I need the chlorine drop test reagents anyway...

    CH and TA relationship

I gotchya. I'll keep my TA where its at, and keep the pH a bit lower to keep the calcium in solution. Pool is stable. Thank you again.

    CYA Test

At the beginning of the year, my CYA was off the charts, and my pool was a swamp. Combined with the de-swamping process I replaced some of the water (about 50%) to get the CYA numbers down. I had pucked my pool for the last 3 years, prior to finding this site. Current Numbers: FC:9 CC:0 TC:9...

The cure for milky water is....?

I think your first step is to pass OCLT...Overnight Chlorine Loss Test. You should not lose more than 1 ppm chlorine overnight, and you should not have greater than .5 CC. Measure at night before you go to bed, and in the morning before the sun hits the pool. For instance: If you go to be...
