2nd Year TFP Rookie just opened AG in Wilmington, NC

Thanks Jeff, I've been enjoying a troublefree pool since I found this site. Unbelievable how much money I blew before I started doing my own water testing. By the way Pezzdog. I get my chlorine (aka Bleach) at Sam's Club on College Rd. You should see the looks I get at the check out line...

2nd Year TFP Rookie just opened AG in Wilmington, NC

Sorry it took so long, been pretty busy. I live near the airport, and I also brew. I get my supplies at Wilmington Homebrew on Wrightsville Ave. In fact, its time for another batch. BBB is awesome, and I have saved bundles of money. My pool water is crystal clear, and if I do mess up, I...

I just opened the pool this week, and here are my numbers: CL-13 FC-0 TC-13 CYA-35 TA-80 pH-7.5 CH-well, my well water is so bad, we know its out of whack, so I don't even measure it anymore...its in the 480 range. Between my well water, and the initial use of all the bad chemicals before...

HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to turn

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to Is your pool round or rectangular? How deep? If round what diameter? If rectangular, length and width? In feet. Give me that, and I'll figure out your volume. I have a 20 foot diameter round above ground pool that is 4 feet deep...

HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to turn

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to If your FC was greater than 10, that pH reading will be off. IF....you accidentally let your FC's drop below 10, grab a quick pH test before you boost FC back to where it should be. If you get that low of a reading again, it might be...

I have my results from my K-2006 kit

Congrats on the clear water in your pool, and passing the OCLT. There is nothing quite like that feeling, when you know you can fix your other problems....like your low CYA, and not have to test the FC levels every 4 hours. My TFP has been almost 0 chemical maint. since I finished shocking. I...

HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to turn

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to Color is looking good, now its up to your filter to clear that mess out. Color looks real good. Now, all that dead algae and guk is the root cause of the turbidity.

I have my results from my K-2006 kit

One reason you could be losing FC is a lower CYA level. The other reason, is there could be biologics in the pool consuming it. Keep shocking, the chlorine consumption will fall as the CYA rises, and the live stuff dies. It will get better. My first 2 weeks were a plastic jug nightmare. Now...

HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to turn

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to Nope, my swamp took a month to clear. If the green is going away and turning to milk...that would be the first phase. Then the water will slowly begin to clear as your filter gets rid of the dead algae...which is the milk. My swamp...

    Cloudy water wont uncloudy ..

I'm not familiar with the K2006, but I'm pretty sure there are alternate directions for the DAPD Chlorine Drop Test that will allow you to use less reagent. Keep that FC up, and the water will clear. Make sure you clean that filter regularly while shocking...when your filter pressure rises...

    CYA Test

I have a speedstir. I'll try the smaller sample instructions, I just found that for the CH. I know its bad, its not going down. My fill water is major culprit....3 years of cal hypo would be the other culprit. I'll try and order that standard, I need the chlorine drop test reagents anyway...

    CH and TA relationship

    CYA Test

At the beginning of the year, my CYA was off the charts, and my pool was a swamp. Combined with the de-swamping process I replaced some of the water (about 50%) to get the CYA numbers down. I had pucked my pool for the last 3 years, prior to finding this site. Current Numbers: FC:9 CC:0 TC:9...

The cure for milky water is....?

I think your first step is to pass OCLT...Overnight Chlorine Loss Test. You should not lose more than 1 ppm chlorine overnight, and you should not have greater than .5 CC. Measure at night before you go to bed, and in the morning before the sun hits the pool. For instance: If you go to be...

The cure for milky water is....?

Once you kill off all the algae in the pool, you won't be consuming so much chlorine (bleach). When I was shocking my pool, which was an obliteral mess, it was eating a lot of chlorine as well. I didn't look at the bleach as "expensive". I followed the advice given here, which is excellent...

    CH and TA relationship

Actually started out higher than that. I had pucked the pool for 3 years prior to finding this forum. I actually did replace about 40% of my water prior to de-swamping to get that CYA down. I'd like to get it down some more, but company is coming in a week, and I don't want to do anything to...

    CH and TA relationship

Greetings all, Now that my swamp is cured, and is now lovely clearer than air, and going swimmingly......I have a question. First off, today's numbers: FC: 8 CC: <.5 TC: 8.3ish TA: 80 CYA: 90 pH: 7.5 CH: 890* yep, I know its rediculous...but I have a vinyl lined pool. Question: It was...

    How Long is shocking process?

I had to cure a messy nasty swamp....mine was in full shock for a month, but the last 2 weeks, my pool wasn't consuming much bleach. As you near the end of the process (when the high chlorine levels have killed off most of the algae and guk), you don't have to add as much bleach to maintain...

Newbie to Pools- can't get water to clear.

While I agree it could be difficult to maintain an exacting shock level without the TF100.....I don't think any harm could come by getting the pool up to shock levels of chlorine while the kit is shipping. OP is armed with enough information to put the numbers in the pool calculator and get...

Newbie to Pools- can't get water to clear.

I don't believe an FC of 3.4 will be an appropriate chlorine level to keep your pool in shock. Put the numbers you have in the pool calculator, and start workin'!! Be patient. Stay with the BBB method, and the worm will turn!!

Newbie to Pools- can't get water to clear.

If you have to hold your pool in shock mode for an extended period of time, you will probably use up the drop reagents for the Chlorine Drop Test. If you are monitoring the shock levels as often as suggested in the curing your swamp article. When you initially shock your pool, if there is...

New house, first season with AGP quickly goes blue to green

Re: New house, first season with AGP quickly goes blue to gr Beautiful pool. Just a thought here. Your deck is pressure treated lumber that isn't stained or varnished. While you're waiting, if you have access to a pressure washer, I'd pressure wash the deck. The dark splotches in the wood...

Re: New house, first season with AGP quickly goes blue to gr Use the pool calculator and get your pool up to shock level with chlorine or bleach...as you said, you'll need more than a bottle. Go get 4 times what you need to get it to shock level, because all that algae will consume bleach as...

Yep, I feel your pain. I was anxiously awaiting my test kit with cloudy water. It took me 3 weeks to resolve everything once the kit arrived, however; my pool was a T TOTAL absolute disaster area...leaves, lilly pads, leaves, frogs, alligators, swamp people with rifles milling about. (well...

teporterfield, When this group says shock, they mean raising the chlorine levels, not adding "shock" or anything sold as "shock" to your pool. By elevating the chorine levels you are assuring that you are actually killing all that algae that is clouding your water. You need to read the pool...

Pool sat for two years... help. **Update - we went swimming!

Re: Pool sat for two years... help. **Update - we went swimm brandon, My pool was similar but maybe worse this year. I had to stay in shock for 3 weeks to finally clear the CCs. If that last picture is the most recent, I'd increase your FC to shock and hold it until you lose all those CCs...
