Well, I did have stabilizer in a sock in the skimmer when I was trying to raise the CYA a little. I tried brushing it off and it did nothing...so it's definitely stained. I am not sure if the main drain is operational...how do you tell? The water seems to be flowing into the pool without a...

Yep, water is so clear I can see all the spots where plaster used to be that I scraped off, trying to get at the BA. But I am also noticing some green staining, especially around the main drain at the bottom, which I assume is from the copper piping in the heater. They don't really bother me...

Ok, did the OCLT again this am and lost no chlorine (FC is 11), and CC still at .5 The smell is still there but not as strong. Am I done? Will the smell eventually go away? What if the CC creeps up to 1 or more...do I shock it again? Thanks.

Got it...thanks danacc. Yes, the cover has been off the entire time. I finally turned the pump off and am not going to add any chlorine today. Will test tonight and then again tomorrow morning to see what the CC is at.

No, I mean that the first drop does make it clear...but it's the smell I'm worried about. It's noon here now and there is now no smell at all...it's just in the morning. Any ideas why? Thanks.

Almost the same result this morning...only lost .5 FC overnight and CC is still .5. But it is the same out there...very strong chlorine smell. Not sure what to think...I still don't trust it. And I don't have enough reagent to do the .2 test. I have some ordered but it could take a few days.

Well, I don't think I can do the 25ml sample because it takes even more drops and I am running out...again. So I'll stick with the 10ml sample and hope, (and pray), for the best. Thanks.

Would there be that much difference between .2 and .5 CC? I was expecting the CC to be off the charts, judging by the smell but was surprised that is was not. What should I be keeping my FC at now? (it was still @ 20ppm this am) Thanks.

linen, I tried your suggestion and shocked it at 19 yesterday. This morning when I tested, I lost only 1ppm of FC and the CC was at .5...and true water is clear. So officially I passed the test but I'm not so sure I believe it. The smell of chlorine out there is terrible....really strong. I'd...

After 17 days, I'm definitely losing. I don't think it is ammonia since I replaced most of the water...but what do I know. I think I will try your suggestion...shock it at 19 and then test again tomorrow morning...if it still fails, I need to call it quits.

I am using a small SS brush for the black spots and a wide soft brush for the rest. Yes, I have certainly learned a lot but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be helping me....since I am losing this battle.

Are you sure the chlorine is not hurting the pool? It certainly seems to be. I keep noticing more black stone coming through, (behind the plaster), and sometimes I can't tell if it's part of the pool, or black algae...or black algae on the stone. Yes, it's a nightmare. I had my wife look at it...

I measured the CYA again this morning and it looks to be between 30 and 40 now, (since I added some earlier this week). So I guess I could up the chlorine level but 19 seems very high. I'm just worried about the pool...it's really taking a beating.

That's the dilemma...pack it in or continue to do damage. Yes, brushing is taking off plaster as well but that is part of the Slam process right? I am into this mess so far now that it's hard to quit...even though I probably should. The time, effort, (and $$), invested so far is ridiculous...

Yes, I realize that....which is why I knew it was a bad sign. (it was the CC test that I failed yesterday morning) Well, I think this high level of chlorine for this long has been too much as I can see some of the black stone coming through, behind the plaster. At first, I was scrubbing it...
