    Yep, the gauge drops to 40PSI when turned off. I'll order a new one and install it. Thanks y'all. I think I'll postpone the PVC work (for now).

    I was not aware of the lower limit for that pump. That's actually good news, if true. Just to be safe, I can order a new gauge while I'm getting the unions.

    Oh, NOW I realize for what purpose the threaded unions are designed. If I wanted to cut the PVC pipe RIGHT AT THE SIDE of the multiport, I could replace those couplers with unions instead. I obviously need to read up on these more.

    It's also handy to leave some space between deck and rail in case you need to replace the liner in the future. You won't need to remove any of the decking boards to access the old liner.
