There's no gotchas with a 20 mil liner as far as I know. Half of Merlin's lineup is 20 mil. I'm sure my existing liner is 20 mil and it's been fine for years. With that said, we just went with the Merlin Shelter Cove which is 27 mil. When spending this much on a liner (labor actually) I'm going...
No way! You spent $11k and will be seeing that liner EVERY DAY! Replace it. Would you have accepted the liner BEFORE it was installed if they gave you a stupid 10% discount on it??
I can't speak much about how safe it is for your pool, but I don't think it is appropriate to have a giant tree growing so close to your pool. It's odd, landscape wise, and it will be a practical nightmare. Get some umbrellas instead :)
Consider as an alternative the Hotspot FPH pool heater. It hooks up to your house AC and dumps the waste heat into your pool. Better cooling of your house and free pool heat with very little footprint on your yard. Would be ideal for puerto rico. You can see threads here for others who have...

Read up on that breaker and why they made it...
It would drop due to the evaporation, and the ambient conditions would try to bring it back up. There's not enough info to know which one would win out though.
If the condenser fan is off, and the AC air going into your house is cold: it's working. It will take ~2 hours of continuous AC run time before you will notice the difference in water temp coming out of your jets.
