I'm sorry, I have a differing opinion on your latest bucket pics. I've looked closely and I'm seeing the water still green after the chlorine bomb. Maybe others can take another look. If this is the case, than the metals theory may need to be explored here? Oxidized metals can create a...

Replenishing water in Chicago weather? Also ? about drain

Re: Replenishing water in Chicago weather? Also ? about drai Yeah, 1" per day is way too much. I'm in the far northwest suburbs, and during the month we didn't have any rain at all, I was maybe losing 3/4" a week. I would look for a leak somewhere.

yeah, that should help get that dead stuff to filter out. I do see an improvement. You went from cloudy to translucent it seems. That yellow most likely is the dead algae, might be a good idea to brush every now and then to get it to circulate through the filter.

I agree, now we're seeing some improvement! Man, what a stubborn algae this is. But, we're making progress, and that's the important thing. It's starting to look like its settling a bit even with the filter going. If there is a way to adjust your return jet, I would nudge it a little towards...

You could try that tonight, turning the pump off and see if it settles to the bottom, and SLOWLY vacuuming it to waste. Before doing so, I would make sure your FC is still at shock level. Since the algae won't be actively growing at night, it would be the best time to try it. Chem geek is...

Ok, I've done some research on the products you're using. The clarathon hose filter looks to be just a pleat filter, so no prob there, in fact it'll help you in the long run when adding fill water. The Banish algaecide does contain copper (attached MSDS), but unless you have used a tremendous...

Hi guardwife, Sorry didn't get a chance to get on this morning. Seen your photos from this morning, and am perplexed at the lack of color change. With the shock level you have been at, we should have seen a bit more improvement. Now, this very well could be a stubborn algae bloom. So, I'm...

If you've added water since your last test, yes, depending on how much water. If not, then it's just that it's getting consumed killing the algae. Until your water starts clearing, expect to see the FC level drop quite often. That's why you want to test frequently to make sure you keep the...

That could be where you lost the 5ppm CYA then  In that case, 20 FC target should be plenty. I wouldn't go higher than that as a target. Wait till the FC gets below that before adding any more bleach. I checked the pool calc for ya. To raise FC every 1 ppm you should be adding 16 oz...

CYA usually will not change unless its diluted, i.e. draining water and replacing. Day and night would not affect it. A variation of just 5ppm is not a real concern at this point. On another note, if your FC is at 25, I would hold off on adding any more bleach. According to the CYA chart...

The fact that you are consistently getting a CC reading of 1 or more means that your killing something with your FC. You may have read this already, but the way chlorine works is by combining with the organics and killing them. Hence, the CC reading. If there is no organics to kill, the CC...

Linen, in the past I have usually gotten a false low on my taylor r-0004 test while at high shock levels. At any rate, Linen's right, at this point I wouldn't trust the PH test, unless it starts getting close to 8 and you've maintained the same FC level. Rule of thumb, if your pH result rises...

Cloudy skies are good, but not a total prevention of algae growth. Plant life can grow with the dimmest of light sources, albeit slower than if exposed to unblocked sunlight. Don't let your guard down ;)

If your CC is going up, that means your killing something. Keep at it. I would keep a consistent eye on the FC, don't let it go down. Eventually, your water will start to un-green (not a word, I know:) ), and turn a white cloudy. I'm gonna say you'll definitely see some progress after an...

What does the water look like, is it getting less green?
