I am in the process of reopening a pool that had been closed/unmaintained for 2 seasons. Got all of the organics out - leaves/frogs/sludge. Swg is out so sanitizing with bleach for time being. Water is clear, but heavy staining throughout. Thought staining was iron as it had been before...

PUmp is maybe 2 feet above pool. Are check valves necessary? Would they help?

I opened the valve and greased the oring but it is in pretty bad shape. Likely culprit? I've ordered a new one. No way to isolate skimmer from drain. I usually prime with the vacuum port first.

SUction side is either to single vacuum port or skimmer and drain. On pressure side the second split is for deck jets (never used).

I can get it to prime sometimes but it takes forever and I have to manually 'assist' by blocking jets and giving resistance at the pool intake vacuum port by covering partially with my hand. I have put silicone grease on all o-rings and fittings. When I prime the pump by filling the basket the...

How did this turn out? I essentially have the same issue. I have been filtering, vacuuming, dolphining, etc. and I don't seem to be making any progress. Getting pretty tempted to try the floc if it doesn't seem to be an issue as long as you do it correctly.

I still am not seeing any (noticeable) progress by running the pump constantly, backwashing frequently, running the dolphin occasionally (which doesn't seem to me like it is capable of handling the volume of dirt), and vacuuming daily. What else can I try? Flocculant? If so, how do I use it...

I did vac to waste, when I did it. Why not during a slam? Just due to loss of chemicals? I do have a dolphin that I haven't used yet. Time to break it out? I can deal with the algae, but my issue is the dirt as this is a new one. What is the best way to remove the dirt? Also my SWG is...
