I am in the process of reopening a pool that had been closed/unmaintained for 2 seasons. Got all of the organics out - leaves/frogs/sludge. Swg is out so sanitizing with bleach for time being. Water is clear, but heavy staining throughout. Thought staining was iron as it had been before. Tried ascorbic acid in combo with metal magic. No help. Okay maybe its organic - tried applying dichlor directly to stain and brush. No help. Just restarted slam to see if it would help. Any thoughts on what it is or what I need to check chemistry wise? There is a rough texture so it is more than just staining. Pic attached.

Probably tree sap from the sludge. It will take scrubbing and chlorine.

Run your FC at half SLAM level for a while and brush often. See if it fades over time.

You might want to use Magic Eraser on Pools - Further Reading
