Freeze Preparations (TX, LA, GA, AL, FL, etc)

I'm still running my pool this Winter. Thursday the windchill is supposed to be 0 with 45 mph winds. That will last until Saturday or Sunday. Should I cover my pump and filter with a tarp to prevent freezing? I'm a little afraid the motor will get ot too hot and catch it on fire. What do you...

    0 degrees coming to Dallas

I've decided I'll drain the filter and pump today while it's still in the 20s. Is there anything else I need to do? Is there any use in covering it?

Thanks for the reply. I know how to drain it if I have to.

    0 degrees coming to Dallas

Single digit to 0 degrees will be here in the next couple of days. Most of the things I have read say to just keep the pump running and that will prevent freezing. They usually add that "moving water won't freeze". That sounds good, but I know that rivers and waterfalls freeze. What should I...

Do they make a drain plug wrench?

I ordered a drum wrench and it won't fit the plug. The blades are too thick. I've got this on the way. I think it'll work. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002FCP4DO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Bug in web based PoolMath?

I had known it was. I didn't think it would make that much difference and had kind of ignored it. It makes a huge difference.

    Bug in web based PoolMath?

I think I've solved the mystery. I checked the FC this morning and it was at 14ppm. PoolMath called for 42 oz of bleach to bring it to 16ppm. I added it, waited 30 minutes and checked it again. I tested 21 ppm. That's the same kind of thing I've been getting- way too high. I kept testing and...

    Bug in web based PoolMath?

I suppose that's possible. Does that happen with laundry bleach? I would think the makers would be swamped with consumer complaints of people over bleaching their laundry. For the 6% bleach to have done this it would have to have been around 12%.

Acid additions are fine. I'm certain of the volume.

    Bug in web based PoolMath?

That could be where I went wrong. It had been raining off and on all day. I turned the pump on about 7 PM and took the sample about 5 minutes later. Maybe the true reading would have been greater than 10ppm. That's the only thing I can think of. Thanks for your help. I think you found the answer.

    Bug in web based PoolMath?

Doesn't the "Calculate" button refresh it? I'm not questioning the data. I can't understand why adding the bleach it tells me to raises the FC so much. It seems illogical but it is happening.

    Bug in web based PoolMath?

Yes to all of above. Here's a copy paste of the results from the top white window: 1 gallon or 1 (121 oz) jugs Sample from 18" deep with a 24" piece of 1/2" PVC. Same place. I checked early this morning. I added the bleach about 7 PM last night and ran it until 11 PM Plain old WalMart laundry...

    Use Fresh Chemicals!

I just checked my container of Taylor's. There is a little of that at the very bottom. It must be a moisture thing.

    Use Fresh Chemicals!

I raked a little off the top of a new container of R0870 from tft. This is what I'm talking about. Taylor's is a powder throughout.
