Hello

i have been going crazy trying to figure out what wrong with my pool.

I Opened my new pool for the first time 3 months ago. Its a vinyl pool with an auto cover.

we are only 5 people that use it.

My skimmer from day one has this grey slime line that forms at the water level and also the water in the skimmer is a rainbow color oil on top of the water the same like when you was motor oil off the driveway. everyone says they have never seen the rainbow colored oil film on top. I have 5 neighbours with pools and none of them have this.

any ideas please im losing my mind next step is to empty

thank you

Do you have any pictures? Sunblock or lotions? Depending on how bad it is you can try to use some paper towels to soak it up or strong pool enzymes like Orenda CV-600 you can buy it on Amazon or shop around for the best price. Have you checked your filters for build up? Clean them really well with a good filter solution. 👍

Do you have a recent set of test results? Did you use antifreeze or any other products when closing last?

+1 on the pictures.

I have seen people post good results from using tennis balls in the skimmer to help cleanup oily sunscreen and other products introduced to the water by swimmers.

Probably oil leaking out of the cover pump.

The oil gets on the top of the cover and then the oil transfers to the bottom of the cover when the cover is rolled up and then the oil transfers to the water when the cover is closed.

The red is the oil.

As you can see, the top of the cover makes contact with the bottom of the cover when the cover is rolled up.

What make and model is the cover pump?

Thank you very much for your replies I really appreciate it

No antifreeze was used last year because my pool was never opened it’s a brand new pool first season.

I don’t have a copy of my recent test results but I had three separate companies test the water and they said it was perfect there was nothing that needed to be done however no one can tell me why I have this oil in my skimmer was really bothering me is that it has a rainbow colour to it like when you spill motor oil and tried to wash it creates a black scum line in the skimmer which wipes off but comes back right away.

I am going crazy trying to figure this out I’m worried to let my kids swim in it.

I just bought scumbugs not doing much. It also seems to be getting worse and worse because the actual oil film I never used to see it but now I can see it in the skimmer

The cover itself has no oil at all checked earlier today , I took apart the whole motor no oil whatsoever and sometimes I don’t use this pump for weeks I don’t understand we’re oil is getting into the pool people keep calling me sunscreen but the fact that the oil has the rainbow colour to it it looks like motor oil I can’t attach a picture because the file is too big
