Our pool pump motor was out of commission for a few days (needed new capacitor), so I bought some 10% liquid chlorine to keep FC up until we could fix the motor and restart the SWCG.

The motor is up and running now.

I still have 3.5 gallons of the chlorine left (date code 20 125). Am I better off continuing to manually chlorinate to use it up while it’s still about full strength, or keep it until I need it at closing in mid October, knowing it will have lost some strength (stored in garage, not climate controlled)?

What would you do?

Thanks. 🙂

I'd keep it, and use PoolMath to back calculate the strength in October. You do that by adding a known amt of chlorine, test to see what your FC is after 30 min, and adjust the strength of your chlorine til you get the amt you added.

Thanks. 👍

I also had a partial bottle of 8.25% (about 100 ounces, date code 19 225) left over from last Oct closing that I put in the pool the other day. Based on the FC rise, it appeared to have degraded to about 6%. I was surprised it hadn’t degraded more than that.

BTW, having to manually chlorinate the past few days sucked. 😁 The SWCG has spoiled me and made me lazy, lol!😂
