I recently replaced my Hayward SP2610X15 1.5 HP motor with a V-Green 165 variable speed pump. The installation was pretty easy and I set a schedule and left it running. About three days later we had a hard rain and when I checked it a few days after that I discovered the the pump had tripped its breaker. When I couldn't reset the breaker I opened the controller compartment and was surprised to find it full of water. I thought the pump controller was toasted so I reinstalled the old pump motor and emptied the water from the V-Green 165 and left it to dry out while I tried to figure out how the water got into the controller housing.

I do not believe that it is possible for water to pass through the motor to the controller and both ends of the conduit are sealed. That leaves water from the hard rain penetrating the access hatch for the controller compartment. I posted two requests for "technical support" on the V-Green manufacturers' site asking whether anyone had reported a leakage problem with the pump motor access hatch and got no response. The access hatch opening is above and behind the controller compartment and there is a teeny-tiny gasket in the slot where the cover edges rest. Has anybody else ever had this problem with a V-Green 165?

Miraculously, after drying the controller out for a few days I tested the motor and found that it still works. I have reinstalled it and am using it again but it is raining here today so I have covered the access port with Stretch-Tite (like Saran wrap) to ensure that no water can infiltrate through the hatch.
