Waterline tile and skimmer question

I came home after dark today and the waterline tile was done. The tile looks amazing.

But I have a question about the skimmer box and the tile.

Shouldn't there be nothing but tile in the skimmer box? I cant imagine you would want to put plaster in the skimmer box?

It almost looks like my opening is to wide for the 4x4 waterline tiles.

It was an option with my tile guy and an additional cost (not much), so I think it's an aesthetic decision on tile vs. plaster.

I have looked and looked online and I cannot find one skimmer box opening that is not all tile

it really looks like they made the opening to the skimmer box way to big. I don't think I should see the grey pieces of the skimmer.

Is this fixable?

I don't think it's an issue. My entire skimmer was visible prior to tile and the opening extends about 1.5" below my 6" tile line. The skimmer is typically encased in gunite outside the pool so it's not going to move. When your coping is on it won't be visible.
