Looked at a few fiberglass pools today and none had waterline tile. The water lined seemed dirty or like calcium or lime build up sort of. Just curious what people think about water line tile in fiberglass pool in Indiana climate. And those without tile, how do you keep water line clean?

I've used assorted spa cleaners on that part, and even waxed it once. But the best thing ever I found is my Dolphin Discovey Robot which keeps the walls and water line brushed.

I dislike the idea of tile on fiberglass only because it introduces one more thing to monitor, deal with, etc.

In my quest for metal stain cleaning, I discovered that 1000+ grit wet sandpaper will cleanup any build ups you might get, that aren't metal stain. Metal Magic takes care of the stain in my case.

To spruce up the 'tile' area you could get a product called vinyl border. I haven't sprung for it myself, but have done a lot of searching for it.

I have a hybrid pool in Chicago (fiberglass upper walls with traditional gunite starting about 3' below ground. We have a 3" tile channel with 1" glass mosaics. My Dolphin S300 keeps the waterline and tile spotless.

I have a fiberglass pool (freeform) with travertine coping. Not crazy about the installation as some of the concrete finished edging under the bullnose cope has either chipped out or "pulled away" from the top of the fiberglass. Worried about what a winter of expansion and contraction will look like in the spring. The travertine pieces are just butted up against each other so I know water is getting down to the concrete level. (I'm near Charlotte so not as severe as up north.) Considering a waterline tile that will "fill the gap". I just wonder if I'd be adding another thing to worry about though.

I have that too but I think it's from fading in the sun. First year for the pool so not dirty. I even cleaned with a soft brush but it didn't help which is why I think it's from the sun.
