Hi Folks,

I appreciate the feedback that I have been getting in the forums and have found them to be very useful (y).

I have been having HX corrosion issues since the installation of a new replacement heater in 2019 92 HX replacements)...another forum and another time...
I know that the manufacturer is claiming a few areas of concern
  1. Poor Pool Chemistry
  2. Lack of Check Valve between the Heater Outlet and the SWG
  3. Lack of pool bonding
So for the sake of this forum lets simply focus on concern # 1. I have read the forums and understand that the chemistry specs are as follows:
NaCl - 200-400ppm above OEM specs
CYA - 70-80ppm
Cl - 4-6ppm
TA - 60-80ppm
pH - 7.2 - 7.8
CH - 50 or better but really no need to add to increase concentration
Borate - 30-50ppm

I currently use a Taylor Kit (CDN) and will certainly get the test strips for Borate measurement. So finally my questions:
  1. Am I missing anything in the test list above that should be part of the regular test cycle?
  2. Is there anything that I should be measuring at least initially or periodically (TDS etc) and in light of the current issues?
  3. Are there types of chemicals used for adjustments to the above that I should avoid or steer towards?
Thanks in advance,

Mark, from a vinyl pool perspective, your numbers above look very good. Depending on your heater, the manual may call for a higher CH level, so you might check that as well. I don't see the need for a check valve between the SWG and heater as salt cells do not produce the acidic water like a tab feeder does. Feel free to post a pic of your equipment pad though and we can take a look.

As for chemicals to use (or avoid), you can find a list of those in our Pool Care Basics. Hope that helps.

Thanks, I will have look for the chem list
