Walmart "Pool Essentials 10% Chlorinating Liquid" - Anyone else not able to find it?

My Walmart has been out of this for several weeks now, without restocking at all, I searched on their website and it says "Out of Stock" - Not available to ship, not available for pickup. I'm not sure if this is regularly available to ship, just wondering if their seems to be a shortage of it anywhere else?

Liquid chlorine is a commodity like anything else. Manufacturers only make so much of it in batches and retail/wholesale suppliers only buy so much of it based on historical trends. It could well be the case that Walmart has simply run out of it in your region and they are either waiting for a resupply from manufacturers OR they are simply not going to restock until next season.

Do you have any other suppliers of LC in your area? Bulk suppliers like farm supply stores or industrial cleaning suppliers will often have it in large quantities. If not, you might have to switch over to lower concentration “cleaning” bleach (3-5%) if that is available.

None to be had at our WalMart since spring. Had to order online from our local DoItBest hardware store for 10%.

Yes Jim, funny you should post this. I ran around for 2 hrs yesterday in chesterfield va after Walmart was out of it. That’s the first time it’s was out of it I hope they are not discontinue it. I found it at Lowe’s , Home Depo has their brand of it but I have never used it maybe someone that has used it can chime in.

HomeDepot/Lowes are notorious for storing their chlorinating liquids outside in the heat. As long as it’s been kept indoors and the Julian date is reasonable (not more than a month or two old), then it should work fine.

Same problem here in North Georgia! Out of stock at all Walmarts within 75 miles. Garden Center told me they are already displaying "Back to School" items so will not restock. Explained that people need to close their pools (for us, another 2 + months away). Did find Pool Essentials exact brand at our Lowes for about $4.00 per gallon. Bought 12 last night figuring others would have the same issue! Good luck!

I searched Lowes and HomeDepot and came up zilch for my area. Only HD shows an Express Delivery option.

Edit: HD Express Delivery requires it to be in the area.

Re: Walmart "Pool Essentials 10% Chlorinating Liquid" - Anyone else not able to find

I found it cheaper to go to local pool store, Pinch a Penny for chlorine. They had 1gal jugs for $3.29, cheaper than Lowes or Walmart in my area. It was also fresh as they had just had delivery the day prior. Store owner said that it's labeled at 10% to allow for storage life, but it was actually around 12-13%. They also offered 2.5 gal jugs for $4.49, charge for jug but refunded if returned in 2 weeks. That works out to $1.80/gal, so best deal I've found. Check with your local pool stores for any deals they offer.

I have other suppliers, yes, but the Pool Essentials from Wal-Mart is by far the best value per ounce of available chlorine. Last year they had stock well into August/September

It would seem, based on comments, that Walmart is out and not likely to resupply. In your area, pool chemicals will be considered a “seasonal” commodity and so once the season is over or they are out of stock, they’re done. Looks like you’ll have to activate the next available option even if the cost is higher.

You might consider cal-hypo as an option. Being in the NE/Mid-Atlantic region, your pool water likely has enough CH margin to allow you to use cal-hypo for chlorinating. Typically speaking, a 1 lb bag of 68-72% cal-hypo has as much chlorinating strength as a gallon of 10% LC. So if you adjusts your CH enough in the Spring when you open (start your CH on the low end), you can interleave your usage of cal-hypo with liquid chlorine to help stretch out the LC supply. Just a thought...

We had shortages beginning in spring in PA so I buy 5 gallons of 12.5% from the local pool store for $20. Also use Cal Hypo which does a great job too. Good for when others are caring for the pool when we are away. Easy to just add a bag when needed.

I just went today. K mart has tons of gall. 15 % off $4 bucks a gallon. Super shock 12 %

Walmart in East TN is out too. I checked Home Depot the “freshest” they had was 18082. They had some cases of 17345 on a pallet that was shrink wrapped. I am going to check Rural King they advertise 4 gallons for $8.99. Will have to see how fresh it is.

Re: Walmart "Pool Essentials 10% Chlorinating Liquid" - Anyone else not able to find

Okay! I'm running to Walmart first thing tomorrow morning to stock up on LC 10%. Last I was there, they had "plenty". However, this latest news is scaring me a bit.

I’ve sent them an email questioning whether they intend to restock, and if not, why, seeing as how they ran out after the first month of pool season. I’m not holding my breath for a reply.

Cal-Hypo may be an option, not sure how the economics will work out. I might just pay the $6 a gallon for 12.5 at the local pool store.

Re: Walmart "Pool Essentials 10% Chlorinating Liquid" - Anyone else not able to find

While it requires more heavy lifting, I found that Walmart's regular bleach (6%) was less than half the cost of their 10% Liquid Chlorine. Go check the household cleaning section. It gets stocked almost daily, so the stuff is fresh.

I can't comment on this year as I switched to SWG, but it is worth a look. Unfortunately they do seem inconsistent with labeling % and with $.

I would love to switch to SWG but I have concerns about the effects of the salt on my top rails and pool walls.

Re: Walmart "Pool Essentials 10% Chlorinating Liquid" - Anyone else not able to find

The Walmart near me has the 6% great value cleaning bleach for $2.60 a gallon with 10% LC being $3.64 which with the difference in concentration comes out about the same cost per dose. So worst case is switch to the Walmart bleach.
