Union Nut Keeps Breaking

We bought a Jacuzzi JDE60 filter and the $7 2 1/2 inch union keeps breaking on our filter. Are these universal or do we have to buy the brand specific one? I ask, because the Jacuzzi one is on back order for two weeks.

The pool has been off for over a week and we really dont want to deal with draining a pool if we can avoid it.

Update, went to leslies and found out that they are brand specific and will need to wait for them to ship the parts to me from California
