Trying to figure out what I need to start

Hi,
I'm planning to open my pool the week after Mother's Day...in the meantime im gathering up the chemicals I need, ordering a test kit, trying to learn all I can, etc. This is my first year using TFP and I didn't know much before (just followed instructions from the pool store ?). I will eventually have some questions about my pump, filter, etc. as I've never done much with those and I want to makes sure I'm doing things correctly. As of right now though, I'd like to find out what chemicals I'll need to get started. I already have plenty of 12.5% liquid chlorine ordered from Menard's and I'm planning to order the TF-100 (I think I said that right...? The one that's $70) test kit. I have a feeling I won't need to worry about raising the CYA because all I've ever used is chlorine tabs and granular shock, as did the previous owners...unless it usually lowers drastically during the winter? Just wondering what else I may need so I can go ahead and have it on hand when I get started. Just as a background, I've already read through a lot of the "getting started" and "pool startup/closing" posts and I've read the whole "Pool School" book.
Thanks!!

Good job on the TF-100! :goodjob: That's 98% of the work right there. And you have chlorine on-hand already! You're almost there. Don't go crazy buying anything else yet until you run your own tests. At most, you may need some muriatic acid to lower the pH if it's high, but you can get that later. Just validate your own results first and adjust from there. Post those numbers when the kit comes in and we can hep you.

Thanks!! If I do need to raise/lower CYA (as that seems to be one of the biggest issues for other people), what do i use?
If your CYA is low following winter hibernation, you can buy some granular stabilizer at many local pool sections (Walmart, HD, Lowes, etc). Look on the label to ensure the major ingrediant (Cyanuric Acid) is listed and hopefully very close to 100%. If however your CYA turns-out to be high, that requires a water exchange to some degree. But we'll help you with either of those scenarios once your kit arrives. No worries.
