I had an air leak a few weeks ago that was simply a loose PVC fitting on the input to the pump. That and the union before it are the only non-glued fittings on the supply side. Now I have another leak which is resulting in some bubbles coming out of the return jets. There is a strong stream of bubbles when the pump is first turned on but then they recede to just a trickle of bubbles after a minute or so.
There's a bit of a water leak at the output port of the pump which I intend to fix but is it true that this will not result in bubbles coming out of the return jets? The strainer drains when the pump is turned off and it takes about 20-30 seconds for the pressure to come up when the pump is turned on unlike after I fixed the last leak where the pressure came up immediately when the pump was turned on. I assume the water draining is due to the leak on the exhaust side of the pump but from what I've read this would not cause bubbles at the return jets or am I mistaken about that?
Side note: when I fixed the last leak I thoroughly cleaned not only the o-ring on the strainer cover but also where it seats into the cover, I'm confident I have a good seal on that.
