Well here's the story.
Came home and did my normal daily pool check and was immediately frightened that my pool lost about 10+ inches of water. So I quickly turn off the pump and investigate around the pool and find a 5 inch tear line about 7 inches below the return jet close to the pool light. I quickly head to lowes and pickup a vinyl pool repair kit, get home put on my googles, put the glue on the patch and go in the pool and put the patch. Patch seems to be holding, I put in more water to get it back to the middle of the skimmer and after constant checks throughout the day the water level has not dropped, but due to the age of the liner 17+ years, I will definitely need to replace the liner. I already contacted the pool company and they said, they could do it in April next season. They quoted around $6,000 to replace the liner. Does that sound right to you guys?

Aw man that SUCKS Carlos !!!

But we should all be so fortunate to get 17 years. So there is that.

$6k is probably fair these days most places for a full install. My buddy paid $7500 the week before July 4th, and I'm guessing there was a 'busiest week of the season' tax. :ROFLMAO:

Is it 'your guy' who you have a longstanding relationship with, or just a rando company ? I'd get multiple quotes if it wasn't 'my guy'.

We knew when we bought the house that liner would need to be replaced soon. We've been living at the house 5 years so we got a good 4 years usage out of it. Yeah it's my local pool contact who gave me the quote. He said, might be able to knock $1,000-$2,000 off but it will require manual labor from me :D

I guarantee you I don't make as much an hour as it would take to pay the $1000 to $2000 to save some of my time. It would take me hours to do what I needed to, not days.

Want me to drain and rip the liner out, then handle filling and balancing ? Done. Next question. :ROFLMAO:

I'm in Ontario Canada, In the same boat, we've been in our home for 12 years, and I believe the liner was replaced approx 5 years before we moved in.. I received 2 quotes to replace the liner on my 18x36, the big company in town quoted $8k CDN, an Independant that comes with good references quoted $5500... that would be $4k-$5800 USD.. so $6k sounds right in line, but it doesn't hurt to shop around..

How long do you think this patch will last? I have a few questions since I wasn't able to ask my contact. Is it too risky to swim with this? We were supposed to host a labor day party and now obviously it's looking like we may have to cancel.

If it's holding, it's holding. (y)

Are the edges good and glued ? My only concern with a party would be that somebody caught a flap with a toe and ripped up the patch.

For regular swimming tell your family not to step on it. Parties are a bit harder to police.
