Testing salt with Taylor K-1766

My first time using this kit. I’ve never added salt before to the pool. I’m just sampling it prior to converting to a SWCG. I’ve learned here that my pool would probably have a measurable amount of salt even though I’ve never dumped any in.
The color change was pretty quick between drop #7 and drop #8.
At the 8th drop it changed from pale milky cloud to this salmon color instantly.
Does it sound reasonable that I already at 1600 ppm?

Your second photo shows the correct target color, so yes, you have 1600 ppm. My non-salt pool tests at 1200 ppm.

Bingo. That's it. As you get close to the # it may flash hints of pink / salmon / brick, but when you hit the nail on the head. Boom. There's no question. Also, the speed/smart stir is a godsend for this test for all those 'almost there' drops.

And yeah, 1600ppm is entirely reasonable for a LC pool in the northeast.

I would say yes. Especially since I assume you lose water each year a closing.

*Everybody* knows that phosphates eat salt. It WAS 1600 but the phosphates ate 1000. So that's $58 for 3 overpriced bags of salt, and $75 for the phosphate remover. Come back next week for another free test.

They probably have a product that does both ph up and down and they have a hard time keeping in stock.
