tapping pvc threads inside 1 1/2" copper pipe?

The copper pipe wall thickness doesn't have enough material to allow you to do this.

If it were me, I'd abandon all of your copper lines completely and run all new PVC. This includes your skimmer where joined to the copper pipe to PVC as well.

What type of repair work do you do?

Thanks, Brian,
Well, for the skimmer, that's busting out a lot of pool wall since it's an old concrete box one, so I've just kept the equalizer line and what's in the box and soldered a male fitting to the pipe as it comes out of the box so it joins pvc there. I did get one of the two copper returns out but the one high in the deep end was going to be a lot of trouble with a big core drill up on a scaffold so I just tied into that just outside the wall. That's why I asked about tapping it since that would be easier than chipping back far enough around it to either solder on a threaded fitting, stick on a Sharkbite, or just plaster an eyeball on it. I'm plugging the copper drain so that's the only little bit of copper I'll have. It's an awkward place to work. When I chipped the pool in 97 I hung scaffolding from the garage roof. How do you work high in the deep end? What scaffolding do you use?
I'm just a "repairman" around the house, although I've worked as a landscaper, painter, roofer, garbage man, dishwasher, cook,..I could probably fill another line. My dad built hot-rods so I learned some things about cars and can work on them. I have a couple IH Scouts to get to after the pool. After college I was a musician for 20 years and started teaching elementary school when I had my kids about 25 years ago. Now I'm retired and a "Repairman" and this house needs it! Catching up on all those years working full time and surfing:)
Do you recommend your IntelliFlow. I just decided today to automate so would I need a pump with a timer?
