Switching from Permasalt to all chlorine?

Hello, we are new pool owners as of May. We have been using the Permasalt system sold to us by our pool installation company. Well, we had some issues with copper even showing up when tested and the pool became very slippery. I took advice from local pool store and added some non-chlorinated pool shock and added chlorine tablet to skimmer every couple days. I turned Permasalt system all the way up for several days and still no copper was detected from testing. We continue to add Permasalt system pool products every other week, keep a chlorine tablet in skimmer at all times and use non-chlorinated shock every other week. I recently unplugged Permasalt system and we have had no slippery pool, no ph or alkalinity issues and the pool is crystal clear. My question is…can we continue using this protocol as we have been for the last month? Once we run out of Permasalt products, should we totally switch to chlorine system for next season or just continue with what we have been doing since it works? Any other previous Permasalt system users out there who totally unplugged copper box? Any advice or recommendations?

Welcome to TFP! Here at TFP we advice against the use of Permsalt due to the copper-related issues. Chlorine has always been the #1 best sanitizer for residential pools. If you don't have a salt water generator, then simply adding x-amount of liquid chlorine each day is recommended. See our Pool Care Basics for lots of great info.
