I think the answer to this is no!

But is there anyway to test a swcg for signs of life without it being plumbed in?

Or failing that perhaps signs it definitely doesn’t work.

the previous owners cut out the cell and left it. It’s very scaled up as I don’t think they had good control of the water. I’m wondering if I clean it whether it might work. It looks to be an obsolete brand so if I plumb in and it doesn’t work that’s a waste of time and effort as I’d need to redo the plumbing for a new one.

It depends, if it is a T9 or T15 cell or another branded one it can be tested at leslies pool... if another one probably not.. Connecting it back up will not hurt anything, just take some of your time.. :)

If it does not work a 30k to 45k would be great for your size pool...

Thanks - what I have currently must be 10- 15 years old at least- It says hypocell on it but can’t find any info. Either way given the links you sent me those cheaper units mean it’s not worth the hassle and I think I’ll just get one of those. Now to find the thread on plumbing a swcg!634C80B5-694E-4B73-B243-B3A5E63772A6.jpeg49BBD538-3E4B-4063-9A04-961BBE405A56.jpeg

I liked reading those instructions printed on the unit. "Endeavour to keep pH at 7.2 - 7.4...."
Any idea when this was made? You may have a pool museum piece. Take and post a pic of the electronics if you can remove the cover safely.

No idea on age I’m afraid. I’ll take it apart next week. I’m not going to try and bother cleaning it as it’s a mess and given age not worth the hassle. The lack of insulation on the cell connection looks particularly “interesting” too.
