We have a 40' kidney shaped pool we are rehabbing. By my calculations it holds about 40,000 gallons. Things are looking well, so I am starting to think about filters and pumps. There is the husk of an old sand filter and heater left from the last time the thing ran, but no pump. It appears I have one working skimmer and two return lines. The equipment is completely below the water line for what its worth. (You can see picture here http://imgur.com/a/JFZZj) After going crazy looking at my options I think I am settling on a Hayward Swimclear cartridge filter 425 sq feet and a Purline Prime 1.5HP pump. I would love a 2 speed 1.5 HP pump but such a thing does not seem to exist in 115V. Originally I was going to use a 30" sand filter to save a little money but the price between sand and cartridge at this size seems comparable.
