Stalled SLAM - need help

My pool was off for 5 days while we were out of town. It was light green and cloudy when we returned and got things turned back on. As part of this process, I disassembled and cleaned my filter cartridges.

I’ve been slamming at 10ppm for 3 days now. My oclt has been steadily declining. My cya is low 0-10 range (I presume because I use bleach, but also have an autocover that is on when the pool is not in use). My pump runs 24/7.

After three days, the pool is Crystal clear but the water has a light green tinge. FC has been between 7 and 10 since I started the process. CC has been between 0 and .5. Last night I lost 2 ppm of FC. pH was 7.2 when I started.

Am I on track and just need to stay on the slam routine, or is something wrong? Other than my patience . . .

So for SLAM, I’m looking for:
CC off .5 or less - Check!
OCLT of 1 or less - Getting close
Clear water - Clear but wrong color.

Follow the SLAM process. Print it out (do it now). Read it three times (do it now). Put it in your back pocket and refer to often. Link-->SLAM Process

Raise your CYA to 30ppm (see slam process).

Remove your ladder and scrub inside tubes. Scrub your skimmers. Check for algae behind lights and scrub. Same for weir door foam. Same for main drains (remove cover and scrub). Check everything and scrub.

CYA has nothing to do with bleach. Your CYA is your CYA. Raise it to 30ppm. Re-read SLAM process. After you put your CYA in a sock and hang in front of return, use FC 12 for your FC target.

Slam on.

Just use an athletic sock or any other kind of sock that your mother-in-law gave you for Christmas. Doesn’t matter.

I took an old black dress sock, filled it with the appropriate amount of granular CYA, tied a knot in the end, and used a screw to attach it to an outdoor broom. I position it in front of a return and boom...easy peasy. Check it 30-45 minutes later after it has been inundated with water, squeeze it out until there's nothing left, and your done. That is the easiest way to do it.

A normal sock is fine - just don’t pick one with a hole in it

It is now Sunday. I got the CYA up to 30 overnight Thursday with a pair of unloved socks in the skimmers. Friday morning I had low to no drop in FC and raised up to 12ppm as 30CYA calls for. I've maintained 12ppm FC and 0ppm CC ever since. Water wasn't the greatest on Friday, but still lightly green and totally clear. This AM FC was still at 12PPM, CC at 0 and the water is close to, if not, its usual shade of blue. The culprit was definitely not having the CYA numbers where they should have been. I'm going to keep it at the 12ppm overnight tonight and if everything checks out normal tomorrow I will consider the SLAM a success and let the FC drift down to normal.

My mistake in all of this was the following: I assumed that since my pool is covered when not in use, stabilizer wasn't important because sun couldn't act on my chlorine.

& that you do a proper Overnight Chlorine Loss Test before calling it good.

That what I use, husbands old white knee highs! For all my powder additives.
