SLAM- Day 7 but clear

Hi TFP-

I’ve been taking care of my pool since January now. It’s been super easy following TFP method. Brush once a week, I have a Pentair Pool VacXL.

About a week ago, I tested and the chlorine was pretty much zero. I hadn’t been home to brush the walls in 14 days, as my vacuum won’t do the walls. Added shock to get it up to 26, my recommended SLAM level. There was zero green color, just noticed some particles when looking at the light and a slightly dull look. Currently I’m on day 7 of SLAM… and still have the same amount of particles floating around. Zero smell, zero color, looks fine. I’ve been running my SWG 24/7 at 100% and it seems to be keeping up with the demand, pump and vacuum at 3200RPM. Cleaned the filter once a few days ago and brushing every inch every day, try to twice a day. The one thing I did notice is a lot of cloudiness coming off when I brush compared to previous times.

Why isn’t this ending? I’ve had this happen twice before- seems to do this when I can’t brush the walls after about 10 days. Both times before I did the SLAM and it was perfect again about 2 days later. But this time the war doesn’t seem to want to end!

FYI: CYA is logarithmic; it's either 60 or 70, there's no 65.

What type of filter? I recall many posts from folks in Florida that have tiny little filters that may take some time to clear any dead algae cells.

Round your CYA up. Your CYA is 7, target is 28.

When you look at the pool with the light, doesn't matter what filter you have, you will see particulates.

SLAM exit is clear pool when looking at it during the day, not at night with light. Post a picture of the pool during the day.

Slam exit criteria is clear pool, FC loss overnight of <=1, CC <=.5. Have you done an OCLT? LINK-->Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

Thanks for the notes! All the other times after my SLAM, the visible particles disappeared, then I did the OCLT, and moved on…. But not until the visible particles disappeared in the night pool light. I mistakenly thought visible algae per the slam criteria would include those I see in the pool light, so good to know it doesn’t! During the day it is normal, sparking and crystal clear.

So tomorrow night I’ll do the OCLT and see if it passes and hopefully move on

Also thanks for the notes about the filter- it’s a CC-150. And I figured the black dot disappearing between 60 and 70 meant 65, so good to know to round up. Thanks
