Should I glue my eyeball body to my return pipe?

I don't have all the right terms so probably asking this wrong, lol. For years, I would slide the eyeball body into my return pipe. They would only go 3/4 of the way and would stick out. I never thought of gluing them into the return pvc because I would take them out in the fall. But since you can get pvc glue that sets up underwater I thought why don't I get new eyeballs and glue 'em in place. So, made me wonder if thats what most folks do. And just to clarify, the piece that holds the eyeball still unscrews so you can get a plug in there.

Thoughts?

The advantage to *not* gluing it is that sometimes you may want to alter the direction of the water returning to the pool. Upwards to break the surface for example if you want to raise your pH. Or to adjust it so that your water direction flows better towards the skimmer... reasons like that.

Just my opinion on why I wouldn't do it.
