Should I add DE to Hayward Sand Filter?

I just read a recommendation for adding small amounts of DE to a sand filter, in order to improve filtering of small particles. We're in the middle of a SLAM, and want to know if DE is something we could benefit from, in getting rid of more small particles during backwash.
If it IS a good idea, what type/brand is best, and where would I purchase it?

Quite the opposite. Adding DE during a SLAM can actually hinder the time it takes to complete your SLAM. Follow the instructions to a "T" in the SLAM article.

Adding DE can possibly have some merit but only after your SLAM is finished.

Thanks for the feedback. Is there anything I need to know, with regard to brand, and where to buy it?
Does anyone else have any thoughts or advice about adding DE to a sand filter, after we finish with the SLAM?
