Help a frustrated old man......

Sand getting into my pool.. Did the normal Google and Forum search.. No real results...

Have a Hayward S244T filter. Changed my sand this season and have been fighting sand getting back into my pool. I added 4, 25 pound bags of ZeoSand-50. Started getting sand in my pool right away. I did backwash to clean out the trash first.
Changed out my Lateral Assembly - same problem...
Installed a new Multi-Port Valve as my old one had a glued in spyder seal - same problem
Removed about 1/3 of the sand - same problem
New sand. so not too much backwash needed.

One thing I did notice is that the lateral pipe fits a little lose on the port valve. Wonder if sand is getting because of this?

I've tossed all the stuff that I know to do..... Any suggestions????

Thank you,

tom

Welcome to TFP! If your repair efforts were all done correctly, it would appear you have addressed the usual suspect areas. The only other things I can think of are:
- Pump size too strong for filter.
- Poor quality sand, not #20 pool silica sand.

As for the center stand pipe for in the MPV, usually they are snug, but the sand is probably a few inches below it anyway.

How old is your system? This just started happening?

Thanks... Pool is about 14 years old. I'm thinking about dumping the sand that I have now and try a different one. As my filter says it needs 300 pounds of sand, I used 100 pounds of ZeoSand. So its WAY below the top. I'll go and get some #20 sand and kick it again. I'm getting good at changing it out!

I've had pools and hot tubs most of my life and have done 100% of the maintenance on both. This one is beating me up.

THANK YOU for taking the time to help... Much appreciated.

OK.... A couple of day later... the sand was back.... Just like @ the beach. I ended up replacing the complete Multiport Valve. That seemed to fix my issue. I looked and my pool was install in 2007. I probably got my use on the old one. The new one also fix a little tighter on the 2 month old Lateral Assembly. I'm guessing that was the issue. Replacing just the Key Cover (with new Spyder gadget,) didn't fix the issue

Thanks again for the help.
