Sand Filter and Winter

Now that I am getting overnight freezing temps, my intex pool has been taken down for the winter. What should I be doing with the sand filter and pump?

I have drained and removed the top (multi valve) to the filter, the drain valve left open. I put a piece of wood over the opening to keep rain out. The pump, I removed all hoses for drainage.

Any other steps?

Sounds like you've done just about everything required. Be sure all drain plugs are removed - filter AND pump if there are more than one. Since you removed the MPV, be sure that wood can't fall off and expose the filter opening. The pump should be as dry as possible inside so no residual moisture can swell when it freezes.
