Safety cover vs old school tarp

Hi all,

I live in Nj and have a new pool. Hardscape is DRY laid porcelain tiles 2' x 2'. I have 3 small kids but do have a fence around the pool area (includes cabana and fire pit). I'd like a safety cover but have heard it will buckle and shift my tiles. Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure about the installation - but when i bought my house with an inground pool - it was covered by an old school tarp, with 1 gallon containers floating underneath the tarp on the pool surface... I was new to pools and thought there was a great mystery for opening the pool...

The pool guy showed up and said , "Buddy you have a dog and kids you need a safety cover..." So I did my research and ordered one and had it installed at pool closing... well ever since then the pool is green in the spring and filled with pine needles.. I bought the finest mesh i could.. In contrast the first year the water underneath the old tarp was clear and almost ready to swim in after the pool guy left... just letting you know ---

my deck is concrete so no real opinion on the shifting, but do you have tiles or concrete\stone pavers? I would say if your joints are finished well then the pavers should act as one unit and you should be good to go?

Check out this webpage. It has descriptions of the different type of anchors for safety covers. There is a style specifically for concrete pavers which would probably work for your application as well.

?

I agree. I grew up with the old tarp covers and pools were ready to swim the next day. These guys want 7500 for a new safety cover install with no guarantee that my tiles will not move or buckle. The old tarp is about $400. Not $4000 but rather $400. Besides the ugly look of it I have a fence around the pool where I dont think the safety is as much of an issue.
